Been catching up on the 2014 motogp series and was curious why everyone has a little guard at the end of the handle where the brake lever is. Is this for when things get tight between a group of riders or because of the extreme lean angles?

The last nasty that made the Pros start requiring them was the Daytona 200 in 2012(?), where in the last run to the checkered flag, turned into carnage due to brake lever tapping.

I figured they just saved your lever from breaking. I guess that might be a bonus on a low side you recover from.

I believe there was an incident after the Marques paedrosa traction control crash where Hayden got his brake lever bent going into a corner. Think after that it became manditory
The rule has been active since 2012, long before Marquez was in the top ranks.

That Marquez is something... last race I just watched he managed to come back from I think 7th or 10th to win the race. What are the general limits in motogp that all the bikes have to follow like horsepower and whatnot? I imagine at that level it really comes down to the rider more than the bike, its crazy watching him burn everyone the way he does. And Rossi... I swear he comes in the middle of the pack on purpose so he actually has some action during the race hahaha.
