My wait is over!!! I picked her up a couple of days ago and wow is this bike sexy. This is my first twin and it’s a little different then the previous bikes that I have owned. It took me a little time to get use to the power she had down low. Once that was over with man can this puppy hauls ass. The bike is very light and nimble and the brakes are unbelievable. My only complaint with the bike is the seat. They are skimping a little on the padding in that area. At the end of a long ride you will defiantly feel the pain. But it is worth it.

I’ve had a couple stalls here and there and I was expecting them from what I was reading on this forum. My worst experience was when my bike would not restart and I was stuck at the light with a few cars behind me. I was forced to push the bike off to the side and wait a couple minutes before I could start her up again. It was a little embarrassing but what could I do. The pains of owning anything Italian I guess.

Well here are some pics. Enjoy!

Hmmm, and heres me thinking if you want a comfy seat, buy a touring bike not a sport bike. If your riding these bikes hard a sore arse is the last thing on your mind.

Congratulations on your new bike. Don't be so quick to accept the stalling. There are numerous threads here on how to fix it.

Please call or email Ducati with the serial number of your bike. They are keeping track of which bikes have stalling issues. If you decide you want to address the issue, Ducati will pay to fix it.

Also remember, when trying to restart the bike don't hold the starter button. Press it and release it. Let the system work the way it is supposed to. One member whose bike wouldn't start solved his problem by pressing the button and releasing it.

Nice Bike!

How is the engine breaking compared the other bikes you have rode or owned?

I have had many sport bikes and this is the only one where after a day of riding my favorite twisty rode’s on the mountain my ass would hurt bad. I have a 05 Yamaha r1 and just sold my 06 GSX-R750, 02 Yamaha R1 to fund this bike and the seats on these bikes felt like a couch compared to the Ducati. I'm just saying that a little more padding goes a long way.

The ducati defiantly carries more momentum and has very little engine braking compared to my other bikes. I find myself trail braking more on this bike than my others. The other bikes that I have to compare are 02 Yamaha R1 (Sold), 06 GSX-R750 (Sold), 05 Yamaha R1 which I still have. Another thing that I noticed is the inline 4s that I have had are so much smoother in the lower rpms. This is my first twin so I'm not use to all the vibration.

I dont think I understand. The 1098 has less engine breaking then the R1 or GSXR??? I find the exact opposite. I can ride my 1098 all day with almost never using the brakes where I use the GSXR brakes on a regular basis.
Compared to my 05 R1 definatly. My 06 GSX-R750 had a sliper clutch so the engine braking is not as bad more like the Duc I think.

No I'm not serious Im being fasicious. Its just that every photo i see lately of someones 1098 shows a set of Full Termi's so all of a sudden the sight of a stock exhaust looks aftermarket.
Ignore me...I'm just jealous that I dont have a set of Termi's.

Thats why im getting a set of zards. Just want something a bit different.
Had a set of carbon arrows ordered but they have been re-called due to some sort of fault.

I too would like something different and set of slipons like the arrows are much cheaper and something I could probably afford but the problem is that none of the slipons or any aftermarket exhausts come with a dedicated ECU. I know that a lot of the manufaturers claim that you dont need it but really the stock Ducati ECU isn't very good at running even the standard exhausts let alone the aftermarket ones. Seems there's a lot of stalling issues that seems to related to the stock ECU and with the bike running lean.
I can just see me getting a set of arrows or something and then the bike runs like crap and when I go to ducati they will just say " you should have bought some Termis".

Power commander and aftermarket zards, or such like is way cheaper than the termi set up and gives you lots of different tuning options.
Emotouk has some on the way from dynojet.

I have the Zards and the stock ECU (Getting the new ECU soon) and It runs great! I don't know how much response you want but my tire is comming off the ground a lot in 3rd. :D :D
Dont really want response, I think the stock 1098 has enough power but I just want that loud ducati sound. I'm more concerned about the bike running right - at the moment she runs too lean and I've got a few stalling issues. With the kit ECU that comes with the Termi's I would have been able to make a few adjustments to stop the stalling. Therefore I kill two birds with one stone. If I go for a set of Zards or something I'll still be stuck with the crappy non adjustable stock ECU and will continue to stall.

9 time out of ten, you ecu will be replaced with a new one. You also can get a PC3 to finetune or you can become part of the termi club (stock exhaust with carbon on it) LOL
I'll wait till I know for sure if the ECU is changed over by Ducati. If it is and its one that gets rid of the o2 sensor and allows a bit of fine tuning then I might look at some aftermarket slips ons. As far as I know there isn't any off the shelf PC3 available with a map for the 1098 yet- anyone who has gone down this avenue have been getting custom maps made and unfortunatelly there's no one down here in South Australian that can do this for me.
