I picked up an 821 and 1200S last week and (as expected) stock mirrors are no better than "decorative".

I was looking at the Ducati Billet mirrors for the 821 and my son wants to put bar-end mirrors on the 1200S (I think they look pretty ugly).

Has anyone changed the mirrors on their bike and could recommend some - or is it a matter of accepting the "decorative" element?

There are many different choices. Rizoma is one brand that makes both bar end and non bar end mirrors for both bikes.

If you search on the forum you will see examples of many different types and brands that people have put on. Bar ends are the most popular amongst the majority of folks though.

The stock mirrors.... ugh. I hate their looks and they are so shaky that there were times I couldn't tell if the headlights behind me were a motorcycle or a car.

I have CRG bar end mirrors. I love them.

I have the larger hindsight on the left, and the smaller blindsight on the right. They're very stable. I do have the hindsight lanesplitter, which folds in. We have a really narrow driveway and have to roll the bikes into the garage backwards, squeaking past the cars. It's helpful for that.

You can sort of see them in these. I obviously need to take more bike pics! Ha.

You don't notice them much, which is what I like.

Owner is a personal friend of mine who has given all those I referred (On this forum and others) a nice discount since Ive been buying mirrors from him for YEARS on all my Dukes! He also eats, sleeps, and breathes Ducati himself as well

Not 100% positive there are specific sets for the 821 in here but worth asking him Id think - if you like the styles and what he has to offer of course?
