first off, i tried searching and couldn't find my answers, so i figured it wouldn't hurt to ask...

the first 100km are on my 1098 and i have a couple questions:

#1 - how long should i wait from turning the key to "on" and pushing the starter button? i think i've pushed it too "soon" a couple of times and it's started, but the yellow warning light comes on/stays on. i shut it down, turn the key, wait a few seconds and it's fine, so i'm guessing i'm not waiting long enough to fire it up???

#2 - farting - i've noticed a couple of times when i park/turn the engine off that it'll give one last "pop" after the engine is turned off...is this normal? it does seem to pop a bit with the stock pipes on deceleration.

anyway...any help/info you can provide would be appreciated...i'm in love with this thing and look forward to building a long relationship (and understanding it's quirks of course!).

OH! 1 more...the flashing red light on the dash: i went to the garage this morning and it didn't appear to be flashing anymore...does it only remain on for a certain period of time? maybe i need to read the manual again!

Yes, read the manual. The red light only stays on like 24 hr.
#1 I have the same truble, cant wait to go. But I have never noticed the yellow light?

#2 I dont remember this with my stock pipes?
The pop on deceleration is normal to me.

I wait for the 1098 to cycle across the screen like once on twice before I fire up the motor but I am not sure if there is a set amount of time.

Not sure what you mean about one last "pop"? Are you talking about it back firing or something or the noises the bike makes when it sits?

Yes, the light does go off after a period of time.

i've started waiting until the SBK 1098 scrolls now and all is ok...

as for the popping, it is essentially 1 backfire after the key engine is shut off...it usually occurs when i've brought the bike down into my parking garage and the temp is hot. i'll see if it continues and address it at 1st service (which might not be until spring due to our crap weather! grrrrrrrrr. i just want to ride this thing!).

I am just over 100 miles on my 07 1098. I got it on the express way and noticed the back end sort of moving around while in a curve. Not the best feeling. I dont think I was any where near loosing the back end. its just hopping around oh so slightly.

I hear these things are tuned really rich for the first 500 miles. One guy on here said his 1098 was a different animal once the 500 mile break in tune up was done. They will retune the motor to run!! I hear the popping will go away (back fire).

1. I usually wait a few seconds before hitting my starter just to see that the dash starts scrolling.

2. I get the same little pop when I shut mine off although not every time. It is nowhere near as loud as a backfire and sounds more like some raw fuel burning off due to vaporization in the muffler to me. Don't really know what it is.

3. My bike has been sitting for three days and the red light is off.

bang on...it's nowhere near as loud as a backfire and doesn't sound like something i should be "alarmed" about.

i plan on getting the termi slip-ons at 1st service, which won't be until spring unfortunately! i'm sure it'll behave a bit differently after a few miles regardless.

I don't think my 1098 has ever back fired.
