I am riding a Multistrada 750 dark 2006 (620 w/engine upgrade). The Multi is my first bike. I purchased the bike on July 22nd 2006 and have logged 10,300 miles. I don't commute, one trip to Daytona and one to Key West both from Radford Virgina, no trailering. I best keep considering myself a average rider. I have had 2 accidents, 1 with a log in a s-curve, the other with a new tire causing a slip and fall pulling out of a parking lot to the main road.
I have decided want another bike more for sport and am keeping the Multi as well. My question is whether to go with the Tricolore or a 1098s. Seems to me 5k wont make much difference one way or the other. Given my skill level should I even be looking into the 1098?
To be honest, I would probably wait another year or two, but I really find the Tricolore so beautiful, I don't want to miss it. I probably will never ride it like wants to be ridden, and I realize I am talking about two very different types of bikes to say the least.
Is there an issue about street legality? I am just setting myself up for a lot of pain? I would never take it to a track, nor put the kind of miles on it I have on the Multi (probably :)) Opinions much appriciated.

"S" or TC

Vivik,

It's not really 5k more for the TC, 'cause the TC includes the full termi exhaust kit, which costs 3K. IMO opinion it's foolish to buy the 1098 and not install the full termi exhaust. So, after installing the full termi on the "S", you've spent "23,000k. Another 2k buys you the TC. Once you install the full termi on the "S", it is mechanically identical to the TC.

In the end it boils down to your styling preference. For the extra 2k, you get the TC paint scheme. I went with the "S" because I prefer the monocromatic paint scheme over the TC look, but if you like the TC styling you should buy that over the "S". Assuming the extra 2k is not an issue, I think it makes more sense to spend 25k and have the bike you want than to spend 23k and lament how you could have had the bike you really wanted if you had only spent another 2k.

Another consideration: The TC is a limited production run, (only several hundred), and will not be available after '07. In years to come the TC will be collectable and will certainly be worth much more than the base or "S" model 1098. So, if you're thinking about re-sale or collection, the TC is a better investment.

Well said. This is why I got the Base. To ride the crap out of it and dam the re-sale.
I love the TC, but I would leave it parked as to not get a scratch. Just me. I have done it before.

I decided to go for the TC. I placed an order Friday the 25th, if they can find one for me. If not I will ask for a Black one and have the Termi's and probably an open clutch plate put on. Either way I am sure I will ride it to death and damn the resale. Thanks for the reply, safe rides.

There was one Tricolor sitting on the sales floor at AMS (Advanced Motor Sports) in Dallas the last time I went there. The original buyer wasn't able to complete the sale. It might still be there. :) Good Luck! :)

Vivik, you made the right choice. I myself was thinking of the normal s model but was convinced to wait and go for the TC which in my opinion is a good looking bike. In years to come should you think of reselling it you'll probably get back more than the 2k extra you paid for it because as mentioned they're only making this model for 07 and that's it. The difference now might be minimal but down the road it'll be major! Enjoy!

or alternatively you could have done what i plan on doing and going the cheap way by just buying the base 1098 and then just buying a paintjob to make it look like the tri-colore. it might not be the actually thing but hey if it looks just like it then thats all you need.

there's a TC sitting on the salesfloor just a two minutes walk from my house. It's Korea, so they want $38,000 for it. That's far too much of a premium.

If I felt wasteful of money and just HAD to have one right now though, I'd buy it and repaint it gunmetal grey to match my car. So ti's probably a good thing for collectors that I won't buy it!
