I have a 2001 996s. Just took my fairings off to check a few things and thought i would check the air filter status. Now i just got this bike this past June pick it up used at a dealer. There was no air filters in there WTF couldnt believe it. I saw another filter under the tank. So i removed the tank and there was a spunge air filter in there. I took that off and it looked spotless under there. What a relief.
Is this some thpe of a performance upgrade where u remove stock filters and use this sponge one?

Thx man. I think ots clear now the stock air filters were removed from the air box and the spinge filter was installed over the air intakes.
Great news i almost had a heartattack when i saw no filters.
