Oil Change Center Stand Removal

4931 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  medobson1
I want to do the oil changes on my Multistrada... Most threads seem to indicate you need to remove the Center stand for this... what's the opinion of other riders...
Permanently remove the stand... or remove and refit for each oil change... .?
Would I be better with front and rear stands as a better option...
Cheers

drain the oil through the access hole in skid plate. remove the 2 bolts and one nut towards the front of skid plate after draining and pull front of skid plate down. remove filter and wipe up excess oil. reassemble refill and ride
Thanks for the reply... I had heard about that method but discounted because of oil spill...
But I'm willing to give it a go.... might do a trial run and see how easy it will be to get the bottom plate off... I don't have a lift, so I will be doing this at ground level...

Look up skid plate mod for the multi.
Easy as pie and it comes off in a jiff once the mod is completed.
Thanks lads... checked out that most... looks like a great solution... also decided to fit FatDucs to solve my low end surging.... God I love this bike...

(Thread revival...)
Finally did the skid plate mod last night, and then installed new SW Motech center stand on my 2010. The Italians have a (charming?) way of making things more complex than needed, but this mod was straightforward and smart (bump to whoever thought of it 1st!).
That whole bike has its body parts attached in such a ridiculous fashion it's funny, or at least is funny when you're not in the shop wasting time on body parts removal/installation. But the bottom plate mod works slick, and after all my bad-mouthing of the guys who engineered how to attach the factory body parts, I ultimately love the bike.
Yes you must remove it to get the skid plate removed, then on to the drain bolt plug. It's not an option.
