So at one time I had both radiator and coil cooler
Guards on the 848. I took the rad guard off as it seemed to be elevating the mean temperature ... Which wasn't
Desirable given summer temps in San Diego.

I left the oil cooler guard on but noticed today
A tiny rock wedged between the guard and one
Of the tubes ... Ready to rub it's way through
Given enough time. So I have to decide between
Checking for trapped rocks before every ride or
Removing that one as well.

Just something to consider ...

What brand guards are you using?
I have the cox guards, never noticed a temp change when on or off.

I've also seen small rocks get thru the oil guard, make sure you are using the double sided foam spacers.

i agree, cox guards are really the best inexpensive way to protect the cooler and radiator. i had no difference in temps prior to installing and after. as a pre-ride check, looking over bike is always a good idea.
