All sounds good .... I like the carbon stuff. I would rather go with other rearsets than the gilles to be honest. I have a set of Gilles on my R6 and feel they are over engineered. I have just bought some Pro Mach's for my Gixxer and feel they are better .. don't look as bling ... more purposeful.

Looks good...and I don't even like gold. My two cents since you asked:

- Go with an open clutch cover. These bikes are meant to be loud and open clutches look cool as hell. Not to mention you can get more gold in there!
- Not sure if you know this, but you can get Sargent seats without the welt (red piping) and without the Italian flag. This is what I did since the welt broke up my seat too much, it's nice and clean in Carbon FX (to match the CF) with no welt nor flag.
- Absolutely on the CF pieces...within reason anything you can do in carbon should be there.
- Fender eliminator kit: my buddy has one that places the turn signals INSIDE the rear section and shine through the vents. And you can actually see them shine through the plastic they are so bright. I was very impressed. An FE kit makes a bike look very cool and IMO should be one of the first mods anyone should do.
- Bar ends and frame/fork/swingarm sliders?

A little more judicious use of the Carbon fiber please. Everyone knows that carbon fiber is 21st century chrome and you don't want the bike to look like a 21st century dresser.

Rear sets should be silver or black.

Gold wheels look better than our black wheels. Silver would be better yet.

Paint the mirrors the same color as the front fairing.

I like the sargent seat.

Open clutch cover. I ordered a black cover, red pressure plate, stainless springs and bolts, and gold keepers. (The gold keepers over the stainless springs with the stainless bolt in the middle look like shotgun shells.)

Nice, have to make it different to everyone elses. Mines currently under transformation, should be ready in a couple of weeks. Theme is gold, chrome, carbon and red. All fastners 24k gold, chrome billet open clutch cover, kukri pro gold pressure plate, stainless springs, red retainers, gold rearsets, chrome wheels, swingarm and all other aluminium parts, fender eliminator kit with indicators in vents. 24k mesh inserts, carbon undertank panels, guard v piece, white number plate boards with gold pinstripe. Before the comments wait for pics. I know a lot of people are going to have thier own opinion, but let me tell you this bike will still be used on the track and street. At our local track and will do a few days at phillip island and eastern creek. Will post some pics soon.

CAG,

LOL, Shotgun shells? Are you trying to give me nightmares?! As you may have noticed, this is the exact open clutch setup I have.

I was loving it until you pointed out it looks like shotgun shells!!!!!

What's a Quaker to do?

Peace, Elton

I did not notice the open clutch set up you have. I commend you on your excellent taste! Now there are two things we agree on.

Reminds me of a gatlin gun barrell...but don't take that as a bad thing, I like it. Open clutch covers are the way to go.

You wanted opinions-here's mine. I fail to see any improvement in the performance or handling (except for the slip ons and I'm not sure they do that much due to the pipe still being stock). I think you're pouring alot of money into appearance goodies, especially the CF stuff. I don't think the weight savings with all of it is any where near worth the cost. These are pretty good bikes as they come from the factory. Why not just leave it alone? I know why. Bikes are blank canvas that the owner paints his particular picture on. Look at the stuff Harley guys bolt on. Same thing, different bike. You asked.

cloudrider - that is the beauty of it though - there is enough out there for everyone's taste - I agree with your view - I prefer performance/function improvements first, and then cosmetic. But i like both.

Sometimes the line blends too. At 6'1" and 220 lbs, I cant get behind a stock screen for example - so the screen upgrade is as much function as cosmetic for me.

The other argument - these bikes are so damn capable out of the box you could focus on CF upgrades.

My R6 was quite capable for track days - but it needed a lot of additions for performance first - I dont see the same concern here with the Duc (with the exception of maybe re-springing the Ohlins for my weight - we will see).

Make it your vision

IMO your opinion of her (1098) should be what you will cherish. Your photoshopped vision is sweet. Should you choose not to make it what you envisioned due to another owner's preference, only you will have to live with the idea "Man, I was gonna do this to my bike. I coulda, shoulda, woulda." I say follow your vision and take pride in the beauty it will become. A 1098 is an awesome canvas to start with as it is. Enjoy.

what have you done in the mean time to help the bike be fitted to your weight? I'm 6"3 and about 250 and in the corners she feels loose...... What do we do as larger riders and how much does that cost?
