I now have a small pile of boxes in my garage that represent a hugger and vents from Shift-Tech, a fender eliminator and pegs from CompetitionWerkes, a ProGrip tank guard and viz-tech's brakelight blinker. Arriving next week is a pressure plate and Type III cover from Ragemoto.
I decided against the Speedymoto cover for cost and aesthetic reasons. My problem now, other than finding the time to actually do the install is this: what did other forum members use to bolt on their huggers? I assume the holes in the swingarm are threaded, but what size? Also, any tips on removing the vents?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Don't qoute me on this, but from memory I believe the rear hugger mounting holes in the swing arm are for 5mm bolts. My DP rear hugger came with the hardware. Maybe the Shift-Tech does as well?

As for the rear vents, they're bonded to the tail and will break free if you pry a corner up and out. It will take some effort, but rest assure they will pop off. Some have gone as far as removing the whole tail and getting to them from the rear, but you don't need to. You can pry them off using a screwdriver while resting the edge on a shop towel, as not to scratch the tail itself. Once you have the vents off, you will have to remove the metal mesh on each vents and install them on to your new vents using 3M tape. Once you have the vents setup with the mesh, you just need to silicone them back in place.

What I have found that works the best is to use a good amount of black silicone on the seating edge of the vents, and let it ooze up and out over the edge. Once you have the vent positioned, use your finger and smooth out the silicone and remove the excess. You'll end up with a smooth black channel of even silicone. It'll blend right in with the CF and look OEM. It should dry to the touch in an about an hour and cure permanently in 24hrs. DO NOT ride the bike in that time period, as you may risk loosing a vent or both…

My Carbonworld hugger came with three (little) bolts. I'm planning on mounting it this weekend (with some Locktite), as my "carbon footprint" has also grown exponentially!

Just out of curiosity, what purpose do those vents serve? Are they providing cooling/ventilating air to the exhaust, do they attempt to cool the seat, or are they strictly cosmetic?

I'm sure it's part aesthetic and part function. Aesthetically they look great, and function wise, they provide for air flow through the tail (in from the front, out from the rear) to keep the tail section cool…

Ducatiguy, thanks for the tip and advice, especially on curing. I was going to install the tail hardware tonight or in the morning, but I want to ride it this weekend so there will be no vent replacement tomorrow. l checked the box again for screws but found only adhesive pads - presumably for the tab that contacts the suspension mounting.

FlyerLen, those vents do serve a purpose, but you have to be in motion for them to work. At rest or in slow traffic, heat collects under them and the seat and becomes quite the toaster.

Yeah, I thought Christmas had arrived early, what with my chestnuts roasting on an open fire…

The Vizi-Tec blinker is a two minute plug-and-play install! The hugger, though, is a bit more involved. The two bolts on the left side are a non-issue; just pop ‘em in. (I put the little spacer underneath the hugger on the left rear side.) I used Locktite on those. The right side bolt, though, was a real contortionist exercise. I was finally able to manipulate the little bugger into its new home, but I didn’t risk undoing it to Locktite it; I was afraid of getting it all over everything and/or not being able to get the bolt re-installed. !Bien suerte!

Yeah, that right side bolt did look like that would involve some work. By the way, Shift-Tech posted me off-list and a set of bolts are on their way to me. Happy.

I sure will, though it won't really get going for another week. The garage is being cleared for a Friday delivery of another big pile of stuff - seven pallets of landscaping material, to be exact!
