Hi im a new member here and finally looking to purchase my first ducati either a 2007 1098 or a 1098s but wanted to ask your guys opinion since you guys will have a lot more experience than me.

I found a 07 1098 with 8k miles
-Full Termi Exhaust
-Rear View Mirror Block Off Plates
-Open Clutch
-Red Steel braided Brake lines
-Aftermarket Racing Rearsets
-Rear Fender Eliminator Kit
-Smoke tinted wind screen
-also includes rear stand and ducati cover

I asked the seller for maintence records and he doesnt have it but told me only 2 services were required and the first one he gave the shop so i can call to verify and the second maintence the place went out of business. He also said it has been dropped in the garage and it broke the mirror, hence the block off plates and the one fender has been replaced. He is asking 8k.

This second one is a 07 1098S with 5600 miles.
It is stock and has maintence records done at the dealer. Never been dropped or crashed. Asking $7800.

Both seem like a good deal to me, which so you guys thing is the better deal? Or should i negotiate the price a little more?

Looking forward to read everybodys input.

Thankyou!

Do they have records for the 7500 mile maintenance on the first bike? If not, I'd wonder if it was performed.

2nd bike, you have 2000 miles and then you will need the 7500 mile service. About $1000 at dealer.

2nd bike is a better deal except it doesn't have the exhaust and that can get pricey.

For the first bike, they dont have any records. For the 7500 mi service they said that dealer went out of business but only said by mouth that it was done.

Yeah the exhaust i see new are quite pricey. There is a decent condition full termi for like $1600 on ebay.

Makes it a difficult decision since this has lower miles and its the S ediion.

Welcome to the forum!

I agree with Nick, I think the 1098S will hold it's value more, mostly due to the stock nature and low mileage. I'd show up to the owner of the 1098S and offer them 7200 cash and if they bite, run away with that bike. If it's had the belts done in the last 2 years, just ride the thing and enjoy.

FYI, these bikes have tank expansion issues. So when inspecting, make sure you check the outside edge of the tank where it touches the frame. You can generally tell if a tank is expanding because it will be physically touching the frame in some areas and look like it's bulging on the top and sides. It's not too difficult to deal with replacing, so it's not the end of the world, but for sure something to think about.

Well to keep you guys updated, i went and took a look at the 1098s last niggt but it was a no deal. It was cooled down for a good 10-15min before i started the bike up for a couple minutes to listen to it and i then gave it a few high revs. Shortly after i turned it off and a minute or so after i was going to test ride it but it wouldnt start and had to cool off for anothee 5+ minutes before it started up. I just rode around in first gear but it didnt feel smooth. Also it had to many nicks and scratches that werent mentioned from the seller.

I am meeting the 1098 tonight and i had him send some detailed current pictures and everything looks great cosmetically. He even sent a walk around video of the startup and idling. Well will see once i see it in person tonight. I was going to ask what would you guys offer for that bike? Is it worth what the seller is asking for 8k? Or should i just wait it out?

That guy in OH has that bike for sale for a great price. Just not convienent to meet up to take a look at it to see if it is as advertised and then loading it back to GA.

Not sure what you ride now but if you're coming from jap bikes even a brand new 1098 with 0 miles will feel rough in first i think. The 1st time i took my 1098 out i honestly thought she was ready to blow up lol No lie, i brought the duc to a friends place and the other riders came out and 1 guy asked if my bike was running rough because it sounded so loud and clanky(open clutch with termis).

The first bike does have a lot of goodies but before you get it i would have it thoroughly inspected and see if there was a way to ensure the valve job was done. A lot of guys will pawn these off just before the valve job is needed.

You'll love the 1098 though, i've only done about 500kms on mine and the ride is on a whole other level.
