Power Wheelie?

12958 Views 15 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  Hedgehog
Have 99750,

Modified Air intake/Term'i pipes. It's got some go, but it still won't power wheelie.

Am i doing something wrong.

I don't like clutching for liftoff, and I don't want to shift weight either (too dodgy).

?

Cheers

spanner,

No, you're not doing anything wrong. Stock, the '99 750SS weighs 403lbs and makes 64 horsepower. With the Termis and air intake you're probably at around 70 horses, but that's still not nearly enough to power wheelie. If you take advantage of rises in the road, shift your weight and pull back at the right moment, you'll get the front end up, but you don't have enough raw power on that bike for a classic power wheelie.

Thanks mrinflux,

I now regret not getting the 900. I wanted to stay with a simple 2 valve aircooled motor!

If I may ask a unrelated question, has anyone tried to siphon out the fork fluids, i somehow think the whole process of deinstalling the forks and turning them upside down can be avoided.

I'd like to try different fluid weights on my front susp.

Thanks
If I'm not mistaken the 900ss is still a 2v air cooled
You're right it's a/c. i meant I wish I'd picked up the 900 instead.
My 900 came up mad quick. I'm positive your's will too, you just gotta do it man...
Clutch it up. Get going in 2nd gear, up in the heart of the power band, and in one motion just slightly pull the clutch in, roll into the throttle and let the clutch back out again. Sharply, and as it peaks let the throttle back down again. It's all one motion, almost instantly. You'll find the timing and where in the power band it works best. Then the key is having the balls to stay on the power to keep it coming up, and as it rises modulate the power to keep it where you want.

The first several times you get it right, it's going to come up, surprise the hell out of you, and you'll chop the power and slam it back down.

Wheelies are a great way to destroy your fork seals, and once you figure it out it's addictive. You've been warned!
I love power wheelies on my Monster S4RS. Its so much fun, i always bring it down easy. Your right Hball its addictive.
I can power wheelie my FZR600 and it's way heavier than your Duc's. I keep a steady pace in 2nd gear, then shut and open the throttles really quickly and it comes up. Nothing special.

News Flash!!

It's not a dirt bike. My 99 750 Monster had no problems coming up for me!
Dude its definitely not the bike its your technique, try opening up steadily to 6-7k rpms close throttle snap open all the way she will come up then modulate the throttle to keep it up....

Hmmm he has a 750ss with as said 64 RWHP.. your FZR has between 105 and 115 RWHP depending on it's year.. no comparison.

Even with the same mods on my 900 it wont come up on power, only with the roll off and snap back on but I use about 4500 rpm in 1st or when I feel the bike pulling really well.

If you're new to it, don't try the clutch thing...

In accordance with the prophecy....

Ok everyone is missing the obvious............ how much do you weigh? If your 300+ lbs monster it's going to be a little more difficult. If you’re 98 lbs female shouldn't be a problem? I hope I didn't offend any one :)
Get a 1098 and you won't have any problems doing power wheelies, in the first three gears......

So true, and I did exactly that myself.
Which rear sprocket do you have? If it's the 37T, it's definitely not coming up. You might have to go to 41 teeth or even higher with the 750. Probably not worth it. I'd have to check, but I believe I run the 39t on my 900SS.
