Hello everyone,

I'm trying to mount a radar detector on my 848 and am curious about suggestions on where to mount it. I originally thought perhaps right under the nose fairing, but I'm not sure that'll be high enough. I'd prefer to avoid mounting it to the tank, so perhaps I could mount it to the windshield? Another option I thought about was maybe even mounting it to my helmet (its a wireless radar detector) kinda like the GoPro cameras.

I'm curious if anyone has any tips or suggestions?

are there any integrated systems? i'm going to be traveling in and out of a state where detectors aren't allowed and would need it to be completely hidden.

edit: looks like the 8500ci is the best interface for this. still looking for a compatible helmet alert though; i would prefer to have nothing showing and have it wirelessly alert me via sound in the helmet haha.

haha, me? VA and DC don't allow radar detectors... only places in the US.

I have my cobra iradar mounted under the nose and wired in a power socket. The radar power plug has a usb plug on it so I wired a usb to charge my phone. On the phone I have an app that is bluetoothed to the radar and dislays my GPS speed, gives alerts and has a map of where the coppers have been (aura system). The alerts for the radar are then bluetoothed to an earpiece in my helmet. take that, Bond! Its saved me numerous times

I bought a bracket for a camera but I use it for the radar just put some Velcro and Vola!

I am 100% looking into this hahahahaha. A little skeptical that you can get the cobra iradar so cheap haha. my escort was like $500

Edit: Looks like this guy is waterproof too!!! https://www.cobra.com/products/cobra-iradar/s120r Now I just need to find out if you are legally allowed to mount a phone on a bike and use the maps. if not then this would just be a way to transmit to the helmet (pretty sure that's not allowed in VA either)

I was surprised by the price also, ive had it for a couple years and im pretty happy with it. You get to chose which alerts you want also, which is cool. Have you checked out the app??

The phone is mounted with a ram mount and is fastened in to the clipon. Works quite well, while riding I can see all my gauges just past the phone. I can also say that my stock speedo is way off! approx 5mph. and more at higher speeds

The radar is mounted using the windshield mount. I took the suction cups off and fastened them with nuts n bolts to the plastic wind deflector down there. The industrial bungee you see is to secure the radar from bouncing because the mount clips into the radar at the front. The cord works great and is completely stable and solid.

I will say this, I hit a nasty pot hole which cracked the finish on the edge of the kevlar and carbon fender (GRRRR) But that wasnt the worst, the bent rim sucked pretty bad! Cheers to Wills rim repair in SC.

As one who lives in Virginia I would want one that is very well hidden (both unit itself and the alert lights / tone) BTW- NOTHING saves you from Laser, trust me! I used to use one all the time and once you get lased its game over.

laser jammers. But when he gets the "error" message, he will be on to you and your jammer. then you get the slammer. Or just a ticket. BTW, what is the ticket? Do they take the radar??

I was wondering how well these hold up to radar detector detectors, but its hard to google search that so i couldn't find any proper reviews. Nice install!! I will be installing it deep somewhere hopefully behind the nose.

Love the app and the interface it looks like a definite winner haha. Basically I would just use the app on my phone so i wouldn't have any alerts or anything besides the phone itself. or if i got a bluetooth headset i could even leave it in my pocket while riding, that would be ideal....

I'm looking at the S120R model, the installed waterproof guy. meant to fit under the hood of a car so i should be able to mount it anywhere on the bike and still pick up a proper signal haha. also It doesn't have a screen or anything so idk the app must be able to turn it on and off? or maybe its always on? need to clarify some details haha

Mine doesnt have the display on it either. On the unit itself is a red light (facing the motor) and it turns blue when the BT is connected. I turn the volume down on it so noone hears the beep when the ignition is turned on. To have the phone in your pocket will work too, a voice comes on in the ear piece and says the alert "K Alert." No beeping FTW

What bluetooth headset do you have? I'm thinking of getting a set of bluetooth in ear stereo headphones (like the kind for music) over the motorcycle bluetooth speakers in order to avoid the ugly exterior controls it seems they all have haha.

Those look sweet! Ive been pondering a dual earbud set up but I like the single ear bud so I can hear everything else around me.

I have a single ear bud that I can put on either side, its a Plantronics Marquee2. Its small and comfortable. Man... I really like the looks of those JBL buds... I bet they sound good

oh wow can you fit something that big in your helmet? haha i don't think i could, i have some big ass ears lol. those JBL buds are just an example; they only last 2.5-5 hours (their words) so I'm looking at other options with better battery life. I'll report back

So something that's important to me is being able to switch the track / answer / ignore a call... and most of the buttons on these headsets are on the earpiece or 2-3" from the earpiece (not sure if it will be far enough out of the helmet to use the controls).

Those JBL's are out with record-low battery life... so far the only actual options I've found are the plantronics backbeat go 2 and the jabra clipper (just a bluetooth dongle for any pair of headphones). I've linked their CNET reviews below:

These cover all the bases as far as I am concerned, so looks like I'll be picking up a set of Backbeat Go 2's unless I can find something better!
