I wish to paint the two black plastic vent inlets on the tailpiece. Does anyone know how to get them out? Do they just snap in or does the tailpiece have to come off. Shop manual doesn't cover it.

I did removed mine to install the cf insert. They are glued with silicon ! the best way I found is to remove the seat and push on the bottom outside corner from inside...(behind) One came out fairly easy but the other one gave me an headache !!! I had to build a toll to push it like a lever using the seat frame. Once you have the corner you just pull and the rest will follow....sort off !

Good luck ! And for those who want to install the cf insert...you will need more luck ....lol

I wish they were just snap !

They are difficult to get out. They are kind of glued in. If you push from the back until you get one corner loose, then pry it off, they do come out. Shift Tech makes some nifty carbon fiber ones!

This was a problem on the first shipment that came to the states, Ducati did correct the problem and started to use even stronger glue, now they are realy tuff to get out but at least don't fly out without warning.

I would not go to the bother of painting them, get the Shift Tech carbon inserts, top quality and fit, they look great too.

You will have to 'touch up' a tiny edge where the original vent was as the seat units are painted with the vents in place so when they are removed it leaves a white outline, the touch up cannot be seen when the new vents are installed but if you did not do it there would be a white surround.
