 OUCH! That would suck!

Anyhow, regarding the starter upgrade, FYI... its a NIGHT and DAY difference in starting power! Without the upgrade my bike sounded as if it always had a semi-dead battery. Just barely able to crank the engine over. With the upgrade, it kind of sounds like a jet engine starting up. A VERY noticeable whine, in a good way. The ONLY drawback to the upgrade, from what I experienced, the parts are slowly trickling into the US, and due to the large demand for the upgrade, your bike may be in service for a few days or week(s)...

Here's what they recently performed on my 1098 under warranty...

1 - Vert.EXH Camshaft 1098S/07
1 - Vert.INT Camshaft 1098S/07
1 - Hor.INT Camshaft 1098S/07
1 - Hor.EXH Camshaft 1098S/07
4 - Seal Ring 996R/01
4 - Self-Braking Ring Nut 996R/01
1 - Starting System 1098/07
1 - Battery 1098/07
1 - ECU Update II 1098/07

As far as I know the starter upgrade difference beside getting a new starter from that of the "stock" one is that the new kit has a different drive gear ratio and a heavier flywheel to better help spin the engine over. The upgrade, well at least with mine, included a new battery, wires and all required hardware.

As for it being a "real" problem, if you've ever had any of the following conditions, you most likely will need the upgrade...

A - You go to start your bike, but instead of turning over like a rocket, it hesitates for a second, then cranks over as if your battery is semi-dead...

B - You go to start your bike, but instead of turning over, you just hear CLICK...chang... and nothing... You try again, and nothing, but on your third or fourth (or fifth) try it starts up...

C - Your bike stalls out and upon trying to restart it, it wont until you do a complete key off and on sequence...
