took my tank off this week to do some maintenance and now I am having a hard time lining the hole up for the rear bolt. I'm aware of the expanding tank issue which is probably the culprit and I know corse dynamics makes an adjustable bracket which I will probably buy..

however I have a track day saturday and am looking for an immediate solution like fabricating the bracket that's already there..looks like there may be some room to move the bracket back a bit..

has anybody solved this issue without buying the adjustable bracket?

...I've pushed the tank VERY firmly into the rubber grommets and even used a rubber mallet but still off by a SLIGHT amount

I'll probably get some heat for this suggestion but Safety Wire and some zip ties?

Yeah unfortunately once you take it off and it is able to twist and distort, getting it back on is going to be a 2 person job at best. I'd suggest getting the front 2 posts in and doing as T suggested with safety wire and zip ties till you van get the new bracket......or a new tank. I have a white one that's been sitting empty now for 2yrs. No expansion as it was used up here in Canada. You can have it for $50 plus shipping.

thanks for the suggestions and thanks for the offer on the tank pat...i didnt realize there's a similar thread going on in the 1098 section where someone mentioned using a ratchet strap to bring the tank closer. i will probably try that tonight first then reconsider my options

thanks

What's wrong with you?? :ahhh:

You sell that for 50 bucks and then everyone's going to expect tanks for 50 bucks ...can you at least wait until I sell mine for around $250...since they tend to go for 200-400 usually! :p

got the bolt in..wasn't easy though

I ended up using a ratchet strap from the gas cap to the lower triple to keep pressure on it - and then wedged a rubber mallet between the tank where the bolt is, and the subframe and just made movements with the mallet until it lined up and was able to screw the bolt in

you mean the 1 I sold you for 120 shipped? lol.
Damn it!! Was hoping you wouldn't see that!

So far for that idea lol

To be honest though, I'm going to keep it just in case I bust mine up this year or I suffer from the inevitable tank expansion issue with mine (still have the original one on...going on 4 years now in a few months :yo:)

Been running into the same issue. So far, I've been successful with just loosening up the bracket that the tank bolt threads to. It's a bit of a pain, but it gets the tank back in place for now.

My long term solution is just to wallow the mounting holes to slide that bracket back.

Hope that helps.
