1)remove seat and undertank plastics. 2)unscrew that large allen type bolt. 3)gently raise the rear of the tank. 4)squeeze the quick release tabs off of those two hoses. 5)unclip the wire harness. 6)place rag above rear shock to catch fuel. 7)slightly lift the tank and slide to the rear.

Snowleopard has it bang on.

 

Took my 1098 apart so many times that my hands are itching to drop the engine and get the frame powder coated. However, that could be my winter project. hehehe!

 

Do you have to pump out the fuel?

 

Nope. Easiest to do when fairly empty though. Weighs much less.

 

Slide the tank backwards is the key to what snowleopard said. Took me a while to get that part, otherwise easy.

 

Just an FYI.... a little, and I do mean a little, grease on the rubber grommets before sliding the tank back on will help to not only let it slide in easy but move it around to line the tank up.
