Apologies for delayed reply Cb..... life has been hectic for me recently. The link rod is not connected to the shock so there's no need to change anything other than the rod itself.

The adjustable rod allows you to alter the track angle of the chassis without changing the spring preload or any of the shock settings. Simplified...... raising the rear helps the bike steer/change direction more quickly in slow, tight turns. The trade off is reduced high speed stability, especially if you raise it too far.
