RIP: Former CYCLE Editor Phil Schilling

Former CYCLE magazine Editor Phil Schilling passed away on May 26.

Schilling, who built and tuned the Ducati that Cook Nielson rode to victory in the 1970s Superbike era, had suffered with Parkinson's for several years.

I was a huge fan. Schilling and Nielson were two of the reasons I studied journalism in college...my dream job was to work at Cycle. I still have his coffee table book, "The Motorcycle World". In it were pics of the same model '74 DT250 that was my first bike, and also the same color/year/model Norton 850 Commando that I replaced the DT with, also a '74.

Lance Holst (Motorcyclist and later, Sport Rider) posted a tribute to him on FB, written by Cook. It was perfect. RIP, and thank you, Phil.
