Damn, Lorenzo's coming back strong again this season. A whole second faster than the guy in 2nd (Rossi). Kinda looks like the Hondas are struggling a bit overall. Perhaps this season might be a Yamaha vs Ducati battle.

Interesting, the announcement about Stoner, as Dorna reported this on Saturday,

" The Australia ran on the GP15 as he acquainted himself with the new machine as well as the vastly different Michelin tyres and spec ECU. He reportedly set a best time of 2’02.1 during his last stint of the day. With the change in technical rules and tyre supplier, there are no other times to compare Stoner’s lap to around the Malaysian track."

How does his time stack up with the other riders?

***Edit... Not too shabby!!

Still though...first time on a GP bike in a long time, first time on a Ducati in an even longer time...and he went faster than Marquez and most others.

well not exactly his first time on a gp bike in a long time, he has been testing for Honda. And I suspect that the MotoGP racers time will drop way more then Stoners time will as they proceed on.

I think Stoner is scheduled to ride the next day. Will be interesting to see the head to head lap times, still I am sure others are looking at the times... doing a double take. Also interesting is that Lorenzo's times were very close to last years race times! with the Michelin tires and spec ecu!

True, but taking into consideration all the new variables, for everyone, these lap times are pretty damn impressive, not just for Stoner, but for the top ten bikes/riders. Would love to see the tire wear photos, and hear the "behind the scenes" conversations in the Ducati, Honda, and Yamaha garages!!! Gonna be a gr8 year. Dorna must be pinching themselves over their good fortune!!!

Right, but he hadn't ridden that in about a year or so...i consider that a pretty long time. I haven't ridden since October and I consider that a long time!

All fastest times were set on last year's bikes if I heard correctly. Just an FYI.

Edit: Last years bike or hybrid bike set fastest times.
Last years bikes on this years tires perhaps to establish a benchmark. Hopefully no one gets in Casey's way tomorrow. Last thing we need is for their ambition to outweigh their talents.

There was a whisper that Stoner is still fairly 'beaten up' from his Suzuka crash, and can't do many laps in a row.

But apparently he was as surprised as the rest of us at his competitive times. (Well, maybe not THAT surprised). ;)

But I have no doubt that Honda will be ultra-competitive come race day. Maybe dominant even.

They will be doing some serious work (and spending) to overcome last year's loss. And of course Marquez has a bit to prove..

Hopefully we will end up with two of the factory bikes - Honda, Yamaha and Ducati - in the first six places. All within hundredths of each other.

No excuses then..

Not the first six places; they will be close in 2nd to 7th, battling for 2nd and 3rd....while the wildcard, Mr. Stoner will be about 15 seconds ahead on the good old red bike ;)

Well that would be nice! Maybe next year..

But theoretically it COULD happen at PI if everything went perfectly.

But then I'm trying to remember the last time everything went perfectly.

Nah - can't remember..

:(
Bayliss won at Valencia in '06 as a wild card on the Duc!
