I just received my 848 . The owners manual say that it has servo-assisted starting. (Same as 1098) This feature allows you to hit the start button and let go immediately . The starter moter should stay running until the bike starts . This is regulated by engine temperature. My bike does not do this . I have to hold the start button until it starts. Not a big deal , just wondering if the manual is wrong. Anyone who is familar with this feature and has an 848 can you please let me know what your 848 has , servo assist or not.

I have the same issue. You have to hold on to the ignitor switch. The tech guys that were helpin me out/prepping the bike for release, were also wondering why the 848 did not have this feature as the 1098 ignition (?). Oh well, just more effort for us...no biggie, but the manual should be burned for that ;)

I found that once my bike warmed up, just over 120 I shut it off and it worked great. But yea I noticed it also when the bike is cold it doesn't work as it should, but when it starts to warm up works like a charm! Just tap the starter button and that is it, the ignition does the rest! :)

On my 1098 I just push the button and it starts, no holding. But I've also read on this forum that if your starting the bike in cold temps, then it will do as you described...one of the solutions I've heard was to open the throttle a bit before you press the button....see if that helps?

848 has no servo-assisted start. The manual is wrong. If you read the manual carefully, you will see that there are more than that that's wrong. It was a direct copy from the 1098 in some parts, such as noting that you can adjust the ride height from the rear, the starting display showing "1098" instead of "848", etc.
