Hi all. Crashed my R1 a few weeks ago, then saw a pic of the 848 in Bike magazine, haven't stopped thinking about it since...

So I'm sorta shopping around for a white 848, I've heard good things about Spectrum Ducati in Irvine, and there are two dealers here in San Diego. But before I go in somewhere I need an idea of what others have been able to do as far as making a deal. I guess even MSRP wouldn't be too bad if I could maybe score accessories at cost or something like that (CF slipons, Ohlins damper, maybe rearsets). Anyone will do MSRP + 20% off accessories, I just need to feel like I got a better deal than that!

Consider the relationship you will have with the dealer going forward, where you will get the bike serviced, and how much you will spend travelling to get somewhere for a "better deal". GP and MotoForza in San Diego are both great shops. They will give you a fair deal up front and they know how to service the bike. This is already a great deal compared to what you encountered at Fun Bike, House of Motorcycles, or where ever you purchased your R1. It is a very different buying experience. You don't have to go in on the defensive and haggle just to get lube with your butt rape. I have personally purchased 5 bikes from GP and have had nothing but great experiences with sales and service.

I understand what you're saying, but at the same time, I don't think that local dealers are going to service my bike better or cheaper simply because I bought the bike from them. Secondly, what is a "fair deal"? By that do you mean MSRP? Or do you mean MSRP plus hopefully these dealers don't tack on a bunch of setup and freight charges on top of it?

Can you tell me what a great experience with sales is? You:"How much is it?" Salesman:"$13000 plus tax, title and fees." You:"Great I'll take it." Or do you mean you were able to get a good deal, meaning a lower price and/or free/discounted parts or services thrown in?

Not being a smart ass, I just want to know what to expect and not get taken. Yes, my inexperience at buy a Duc shows in my attitude, well learned from years of haggling with House and FBC. Hard habit to break.

Hey, I've been to House and Fun Bike so I know where you are coming from.

These are small shops and they do take care of their customers first when it comes to service. So, if you bought a bike from the shop that is servicing it, they will be more likely to squeeze you in without an appointment, give you free parts/service, etc.

Depending on the demand for a particular model will determine the price for a given Ducati. For a model that is sitting on the floor you can expect to pay below MSRP. For one that is in demand expect to pay closer to MSRP but not over. You also won't find $2000 worth of additional charges like the other dealers. They charge tax/title/license (no getting around those) and maybe a small prep fee depending on the deal you get.

They will automatically discount any gear you buy from them when you buy a bike too.

They don't start high and expect you to bargin them down and they won't surprise you with hidden fees. They will also be more likely to give you a better deal if you show up in person and are ready to buy.
