Doing my own valve adjustment on my 998 for the first time and there appears to be slight scoring on where one of the cams rests. The bike has 19,000 miles and was not displaying any issues. The cam itself looks fine. Is this normal?

put the cams back in torque it down and see how the cams spin by hand. if spins with minor effort alls well. mine had a piece of debris that scored the bearing surface, so i used some 2000 grit sand paper and gently sanded out the imperfection.

I was considering a very very light sanding as a remedy.

 

[Slower than you]

Ignore it and run it. It's just little scratches from someone else being in there x years ago.

*Cam seals go in clean and dry. No sealer or oil on the outside of them.
