You don't like 848/1098, you can't afford 899/1199, and you want the more reliable bike (than 916/998). Then you must get the 999, there are no other options. Although, I heard japanese litre bikes are reliable, cheap, and comfortable too.
I would still suggest 848/1098 though. They are very good. Very very good. I had 848 and can't complain about the riding position.
