I'm afraid I may need the valve springs replaced for the second time. I have an extended warranty that expires in a week so I need to jump on this now. I live about half way from Newport and Pro Italia. Recommendations? I'm newer to the area so I have limited experience with either.

I have bought , traded and had bikes serviced from both places. They each do an awesome job in all departments in my roughly 20 years experience in owning these kind of motorcycles and using both dealerships. My Desmo is now at Ducati of Newport Beach.

Why do you think you need to replace the valve springs?

What is the symptom? Metal in the oil?

I'm about half way from each so I'll guess I'll just see who can perform the work first.

I could be jumping to conclusions but the bike will not idle properly. I can on occasion, in a very narrow temperature band, keep it from stalling.

Could also be from carbon buildup on the valve seats. Have you tried a few tankfuls with some Techron?

Closer springs really only do anything when starting the bike, which happens at crank speed way below idle. Sounds more like (a) clogged injector(s) or a duff sensor (or connection to one) than closer springs.

How old is the fuel? Have you added any fuel/injector conditioner?

Before taking the bike to the dealer to get the diagnostics read, I would try opening each of the air bleed screws on the throttle bodies a quarter turn and see if that helps. If it helps but doesn't fix it, open them some more.

It is highly doubtful the valve helper springs are bad if they are the latest version. The service records should show if you received the latest update. It could be the bike simply needs a throttle body balance and idle reset.

FWIW, I bought my "nice" bike from Pro Italia. They sold and service a lot of Desmosedicis so I'm sure they are competent. My dealings with the sales department were painless. I have had no interaction with the service department (I live in Virginia).

Thanks! I think I may be thinking the situation is worse than it is. I've ran lucas oil fuel injector cleaner through a tank but will try some Techron as well as the other suggestions.
