Great ??? When I ordered mine there was only going to be 400. Now there are going to be 1,500, so much for exclusivity. And, they are going to build an 800cc version when this bike is done competing......Great again ????

Pierre,, could you translate this please:
"la demande pour la Desmocedici a été si forte que Ducati avait accepté d'en fabriquer 1 250 puis 1 500, ce qui n'a pas suffi, les carnets de commande étant surchargés."

Johnny, please, I do not want to be rude but just stop saying crap.

Ducati never said the production will be limited to 400 bikes, and Ducati already said they won't make a Desmosedici 800 cc.

And don't worry, your Desmosedici RR will remain a very valuable bike, even if there will be 1499 others around the globe (and imho mostly in big houses where live rich guys, not that much on the road or on track)

At your service caro Alfredo :)

"the demand for the Desmosedici has been so strong that Ducati decided to produce 1,250 then 1,500, which was not enough because the order books are overfulfilled".

I hope there will not be too much speculation during the next weeks, but I'm afraid some guys will try to sell their orders for 20% more than the price

If I did, where could I find another one???
Alfredbob,

I know you have a rather large distaste for me but, I totally agree with you and I even tried to make this point earlier about it's value.

Will it end up as an Enzo? Probably not.

But with only 1500 units world-wide and only 400 in CONUS, it's not going to be lighting up the cycle-trader mags anytime soon. Thus, it's value will be substantially greater than $72.5K.

$100K wouldn't touch mine either.

Hi HornetDriver,
I do not dislike you at all! You will learn that us Italians we yell for nothing and 10 minutes later we forget everything about it. Please trust me I do not dislike you at all and instead I would like to continue an open conversation with you as well as everybody else. We all share this Desmosedici RR passion and I hope that even after we receive our toy we will continue communicating with the same enphasys as we do now. Let us bury the hatchet and continue our purpose in here which is informing each other in a proactive way. It is nice talking to you again.

Hello everyone,

and here is another article that just came out this evening......

"If you want a Desmosedici RR, but haven't got round to placing your order yet, you're out of luck.

Ducati has just announced that it has sold the entire production run of 1,500 motorcycles - a figure that has been raised twice from the original 'couple of hundred', to 1,250 following a rather better than expected response to a £40k Ducati, up to 1,500 after demand stayed high. Despite the fact that, apparently, orders are still coming in, Ducati has said that it will not be extending its run again.

Demand for what it possibly the most desirable motorbike ever will keep the Desmo's dedicated production line tied up until the end of next year and the official line is that there will be no follow up.

However, according to MCN, "insiders have hinted that the change in MotoGP regulations to limit capacities to 800cc in 2007 might prompt a second, 800cc MotoGP replica in the future".

Here's hoping."

I know of one available now. A guy has backed out of his order. I am looking forward to getting mine because it is going to be fun to ride. I didn't buy it with the idea that it's going to be an investment. I learned my lesson long ago about cars or Bikes being investments (Minus Ferrari's). It should be great. Too many will end up sitting in garages and never be ridden like they were designed to do.

And as far as a 800cc bike, don't be surprised if it shows up. I have heard rumors already it may happen. How will they top the Desmo ??? You think they are going to sit still now.....not likely.

I still contend, they should have kept the numbers down on the Desmo. Porsche only makes limited numbers of GT3's,GT2's and GT3 Rs's. Ferrari only makes limited numbers of cars. This keeps them exclusive and worth more.

Ducati won't build an 800cc. It would directly contradict stated plans, rendering future statements worthless. It would cripple their credibility. The future business effect would be very negative. They aren't foolish. Even if Bologna was coy about future Desmo plans, the long teething pains for the D16RR were real, and there is no interest to go through that process again anytime soon. Costs have climbed well beyond bean counter expectations. Additionally, there is significant overlap between the two bikes as noted by Cycle News. There isn't enough differentiation to produce another exclusive and exotic version. But for sure, it is Ducati's credibility at stake here and it is the reason there won't be an 800cc.

Do agree 1500 is a high number. I think they're trying to recoup some of their costs, and the declining dollar hasn't helped at all.

FWIW, my dealer has two reservations. They've also ordered one for the floor/showroom. There are some dealers ordering one for the showroom. Ducati will ship these orders last, but it does give one the opportunity to walk in off the street and buy one next autumn.

It would certainly be a disgrace if they came up with an 800cc DD16rr; the only thing we could do at that point is.......BUY ONE. Ducati is a very serious firm however they are as serious about making money and without knowing much of their strategies I do not attempt to give an opinion whether they are going to produce an 800 or not. Would I be surprised should they do that? Not at all....UPSET? of course!!! MY REACTION? I would probably buy it and quit whining about it.

Johnny,

Porsche makes as many regular GT3s as they can sell. The GT3 RS and GT2 are limited in production, but take a look at the 996 GT2 values. That car was overpriced new and it has not held its value well at all.

Granted, my Porsche dealer has a "New" 996 GT2 on the floor right now. No buyers yet. But all the new GT3's are gone NOW. The GT3 RS's are going for at least $ 50,000.00 over sticker. They just don't make that many. There won't be 1,500 GT3's any time soon. And way less GT3 RS's.

I love Ducati, but they are notorious for lying about production numbers and future product. That is the way they do things. I have heard rumors there probably will be another "Halo" model after the Desmo (800 perhaps). I'm just waiting to get the Desmo, and we'll see what happens after that >

Spoke to my dealer this week and they confirmed that the orders for the Desmosedici are closed. Looks like Ducati now has a lot of work ahead of them to knock these awesome machines out. I can't wait to see, hear, and touch it!!!

We were just laughing at the dealer about this.

Originally, only 400 bike worldwide were going to be made. Then, when all the orders came in, they said They could get about 900 bikes out of the engine mold before it would be obsolete. That would be it. Then all of a sudden, they are making 1500 bikes worldwide. And, then they start saying the the original number of 400 was "ONLY" for the USA. That is why we were laughing, "Italian Truth".......

They still make the best damn bikes though......
