I didn't bring the bike into the dealer for it's 600 mile service. I changed the oil and filter myself, I also tightened my chain. I know they do that at the 600 mile and maybe they also give the bike a once over. Couldn't see paying 300 bucks for something I can do myself, besides I've always serviced my own bikes. Question: Is my warrenty still valid? Those bastards owe me a battery and a full diagnostics check due to the melted battery (see my other thread for the story). Will they tell me to go piss up a rope because I didn't bring it in? I also thought it was 600 miles "OR" 6 months. I didn't read anything about 600 miles or 6 months " WHICHEVER COMES FIRST".

Thanks again guys.

BTW this forum has been so helpful to me with my "1ST" Ducati ownership. Thanks to everyone who's PM'd me about Clutch covers, clutch pressure plates, 1098 manual, engine light issues etc etc. I think it's great that we all join together for a common cause. It's nice to be in an elite club, so to speak.

Servicing Dukes has always been at x miles or y months whichever comes first, pretty similar to most other things....sorry if this sounds patronising, but whether you read it correctly or not it's not exactly rocket science.

On your home servicing, you would technically invalidate your warranty if you have not adhered to the servicing requirements...but that said, they could hardly use that as an excuse to avoid sorting out your battery issue...good luck, I hope you get it sorted.

Thanks for your reply. I don't mind taking a tongue lashing on a message forum. If I screwed up through my own stupidity then so-be-it, I don't mind someone letting me know. Having said that, I just want to make sure Ducati (or my dealer) takes care of me and makes things right, which they should. I don't want them to break out the old " well your warranty is invalid because you changed your own oil". That to me is silly. I don't care if this is a Ducati, Ferrari, or whatever, I think anyone who owns a motorized vehicle should work on it themselves and learn about it. I don't trust people working on something that I could possibly be driving 170 mph. What if, in the technicians haste, he forgot a screw here or didn't tighten something down correctly? That's just my opinion. I also used a Ducati oil filter and the Ducati reccomended oil, so that shouldn't be an issue. I just wanted to float the "warranty" question out there in case anyone else went through this with Ducati or their dealers so I know what to expect.

Again thanks for taking the time to reply.

Good luck with your Tri-color....

mine done the same thing its because the engine is so hard 2 turn when hot that the electrics overheat. If u hit the button and it doesn,t turn immediately hit the kill switch, letting the button go won't do because the servo start keeps trying.STILL NOT UR FAULT!!

If you guys have early bikes, it may be that they are before the starter motor gear ratios were modified to make it easier for the motor to be turned...worth checking this with your dealer.

Finally talked to my dealer today(after 2 e-mails to them and 3 to Ducati). He's driving down from New Hampshire on Saturday (2 hours) to pick the bike up and fix it.

No, I got it from great bay motorcycles in Northhampton. They were really nice on the phone today too. I told him about the battery and he said "Oh god"........and before I could say another word he was like ok what street do you live on I'll pick it up Saturday morning. No hassles nothing. Now if they could just get it back to me in a couple of days I'll be impressed. Knowing my luck I'll be bikeless for months..............
