Hi Guys

Can anyone give me some feed back on what their 1098s are doing speed wise in each gear before the rev limiter cuts in, someone told me that the new Gixer does 186kmh in 1st.
Ive had my 1098S up to 154kmh in 2nd at red line with standard gearing, i had it up to 222kmh two up in 4th with the first rev warning light lit up then ran out of road.
As far as what i got told about the GSXR it sounds pretty far fetched im sure someone out there in forum land can put it straight.

I've redlined it in most of the gears, but was too preoccupied to look at the speedo just then!
At 200+ my face is usually just above the the handle bars and about 6 inchs from the digital display!

OMG just answer the [email protected] question already!
Is the question as silly as asking what you have taken your 1098 upto top speed wise, i didnt realise this was a "critique your question forum" if you dont wanna answer then dont post a reply arsehole.

Hmmmm maybe i should have asked "does anyone know the factory stats on top speeds in every gear with standard front and rear sprockets".
Ducati must publish this info surely.

BTW - This was provided by member Ten-6 a month or two ago ... so credit where credit is due.
Thanks to you Chris and Ten-6 for this, it answers all the questions as far as my Ducati is concerned.

Umm, no I don't think Ducati publishes that info. I have had mine doing an indicated 175mph in 6th and still pulling hard. I rarely do runs like that so I don't have consistent results to give.

According to Cycle World's radar, it is bumping off of the rev limiter at 174mph in 6th. Another test they ran recently against a number of other sportbikes showed 172mph. All bikes (from 600s to 1000s) were tested with the same equipment and showed realistic results. I have heard of a number of people seeing higher on the speedo, but again, how many bikes show the real speed, especially well into triple digits? Remember, the 1098 is geared shorter than the 999. Throw the 999 rear gearing on and....

The Link on Chris's post is pretty cool, it has preloaded stats for all sports bikes worth a mention and gives you theoretical speeds for your bikes standard setup, the bonus is you can change the variables to include different size sprokets, tyres and even chain length.....how accurate is this? well the caculator says 2nd gear top speed at 10700 rpm is 157kmh and guess what according to my speedo the rev limiter cut in at about 154-155kmh again today!
Theoretically top gear with standard gearing is 289kmh, before you guys jump up and down i know this doesnt mean shit and the calculator may not be accurate for higher speeds but its a very good tool to use as a prerequisite to mod-ing the gearing on your bike.

When you change up a gear the bike will go faster than the previous gear.
When you go to change up and there's no more gears then thats too fast.
200mph is possible, well think of it this way
1 second ago you were nearly 100 yards back.

I chased a GSXR1000 last weekend, he was fast, I was fast, we stopped, he said your bike is beautiful man. I said yeah I know I love it, and oh your bike has nice tyres on it.
