Hello, And merry christmas

regardless, My mother wants to buy me a racing suit for a late christmas present. A friend of mine has a Shift= 2 piece (leather jacket, zips onto leather pants w/pucks). Since its almost 2008, i can get this suit new, 2007 model (which he paid $600 for) for $450. I have worn his suit, as he is a short guy like me (5'8"), but had issues with the flexibility. Although a lot of this isn't required on the motorcycle, it made me feel less comfortable and slower to respond to turns, more or less.
Teknic makes a chicane 1 piece suit for the low low price of $500. Issue is, i would always have to dress seriously for even the most lackidasical of rides. I think the shift is the way to go. I know suits can range in the 1000's, but i don't want to commit to something like that if i only drag knees a few times per year.

ALSO My bike is yellow (arguably one of the fastest colors, next to black and then red), And even though i normally look like a tool, i want to have a suit that is black, So i don't look like a nerd with a nice bike. I have been hard pressed to find a competitively priced yellow/black suit that matches.

What do i ask of you? Any reccomendations for a comfortable/flexible suit that i don't have to be the million dollar man to buy (or for my mom to buy)? Any suits that look cool in yellow and black? Just looking for feedback here.

I'm looking for a suit to and I was trying to decide between a 1 or a 2 pce. Ebay seems to be a good spot to buy and also to sell suits and I don't mind paying $850 for the Laguna 1 or 2 pce. by Dainese that I can sell if I don't use as much as I thought. I have the same problem with my yellow 1098, I feel in the way as the wind slides over the butter slippery paint. I need a suit to blend in and since Vale wears Dainese it should do.

Dainese is one of the best suits on the market..chose the color and model you want....as far as one or two pieces suit I would chose one piece in a heartbit! safer and much better looking than the two pieces suits (and sometime less expensive as well!!)

Good on your mum! I like Dainese also (I've got 2 sets), but unless you're going to track a lot, IMO the 2 piece is better value - you can still wear the jacket if you're heading down the shops, etc and get the protection for upper body. I've come off in 2 piece on the track and despite highspeed sliding it all did as it should have. The 2 piece is also easier to peel off when you're hot and sticky (from riding in summer that is).

One piece suits definitely offer the best protection, but aren't as practical for street use.

If your body type is the least bit unusual, off-the-rack one piece suits can be a problem. For example, I'm 6' 2", 190 lbs, with a long torso. I tried a Technic suit that was a great bargain, but it was not quite long enough through the torso (tugging at my neck and groin), and it was ridiculously baggy, to the point of being ineffective.

I finally wound up buying a custom one-piece suit from Z Custom in California. Incredibly high quality, reasonably priced, and the fit is absolutely perfect! You can pick your own design and colors.

If the off-the-rack suits fit you, great, as they are less expensive. But custom suits sure are nice!

Gillistheman,

Me, 1 pc definitely if it's for the track. I have just solved a similar dilemma. Go to the discussion forum on Gear, and look for the thread on Alpinestar vs Spidi vs Dainese. I think this is the correct link to it.

http://www.ducati1098.net/forum/showthread.php?threadid=3244

It should give you more insight. Ultimately the final selection is YOUR choice and yours alone, and everyone will give you a different angle or view from which to solve this dilemma, my only advise is decide what is right for you based on what you want from it, what you will do with it, and what is more important of price, looks and quality. Do your research, take your time and then make up your mind and feel bloody damn good when you have spent your cash, cos it will be a lot of cash to wonder if it was the the right choice.

Regards

Leather suit

I have both which I like in differnt riding situations. As mentioned earlier I really like Dainese leather riding gear. The quality is excellent and the design for riding ia also excellent.

I wear a jacket/pant combination which zip together for the road and a 1 piece suit for the track.

My suit is a Ducati Racing perferated suit which is basically a Dainese Bora suit. It fits great and is very comfortable when riding.

I considered a Spidi R-Corse Wind. I chose the Ducati suit because I got a great deal on it, ($1249).:)

My brother has a Moto GP Kangaroo suit which he loves and it is almost 1/2 the weight as a cowhide suit.

Good luck with your decision.

Hi Pringle ! right on the money! I also have a dainese and a Kangaroo Moto GP titanium suit: I love my Dainese Kirishima when it is kind of cold or at the beginning of the season but certainly I switch to my Moto GP Kangaroo in the midle of summer. Both are One Piece but simply because i do not drive on the roads.

I have the Axial "in" boots, is there any advantage to the in the pants boots to outside the pants except that it looks way cooler.

Agreed. I wear a 2 piece Alpinestars suit. When I arrive at my destination, I can unzip the jacket, remove it, and move about in a t-shirt. A 1 piece, while a bit safer, doesn't allow this option.

Years ago I bought a Roadcrafter one piece riding suit you wear over your regular clothes. Looking back, I wish I had bought a two piece outfit because I think they are much more practical. Plus, with the underarmor you can buy now, I think some of the safety issues are not as great as they once were. Even in my Roadcrafter I have armor at the hard parts plus a full length back protector too. I want to get a new set of leathers because I'm too fat for my Hein Gericke set but if I do, I will definitely go two piece for the reasons others have already mentioned. However, I have yet to do a track day so all my riding is on the street so if you are in the situation like Alfredo, then a one piece makes more sense. Personally, I'd still buy the two piece though for the convenience of stripping down when I'm off the bike. Just make sure the jacket and pants zip together.

I will tell you that safety comes at a price: just to give you an idea every time we do a track day we loose between 4 and 5 punds a day by sweating like crazy. By Changing to a Kangaroo Suit I alleviated the problem somewhat but it is still intense work and you pay the price for it.

2 pieces are far more convenient but I would suggest only looking at 2 piece designs which have a full circumference zip, not one that just joins at the back.

Suits should be ok but if you need separates (I cant buy a suit due to needing a jacket a size or two larger than the pants) check that the zipper lengths on jacket and pants are the same.

I have a MotoGP Kangaroo 1 piece ... I use it on the track and the canyons... love it. Plus they are a great deal for the money.. and I mean great!

Although I have read some differing opinions... I have personally crash tested mine at high speeds and it held up great (and more importantly so did I) :baddeal:

I also had a Teknic before that one...crash tested also... held up great as well... but not nearly as comfy of a suit as the Moto GP.

You certainly cant go wrong with a Dainese suit but then again you may pay double the price. I personally don't like the way A Stars fit but that may just be me.

Thats an awesome gift from your mom... gear should be your first purchase before..say....a Termi full exhaust

I just got back from the Dainese store in San Francisco (added $1,200 to my CC) and got a two piece suite. After years of riding one and two piece leathers, two piece with a full zipper is the way to go! I have had Alpinestars, Venson, Joe Rockets, Tour Master and First Gear, Dianese is tops! The leathers fit like a glove and so soft unlike wearing a cow and it doesn’t feel too thick when it bunches around the elbows and other areas where the blood circulates ;) Others I considered are MotoGP (problem the store is in NY) and MTech but no local stores. You must try them on to feel the fit don’t buy through the net otherwise you’ll go crazy shipping back and forth until you get the right fit$$ Roos is another choice but not readily available and they are $$$$$

Dainese only for me and I should have listened to the pros a long time and saved tones of greenbacks. :banghead:

Lots-O-Luck.
