It's been very hot in Arizona this summer, hottest on record I here. The heat has not let up. The reason for my post is to hear suugestions about what to do to my bike (1098) in the summer months to help it run cooler.

P.S. any suggestions on coolant, engine oil, fuel mapping (lean or rich), gearing (bring RPM's up/down)???? I'm desperate here.

there are no ways i have seen to make the engine run cooler unless you want to run w/out the body work.

but what i have done is have the exhaust ceramic coated and i put a self adhesive aluminized fiberglass insulation under the seat and black side pieces. this took a lot of the heat of of me.
best of luck in the AZ desert!

contrary to popular belief, I have found that if you keep the revs up as opposed to near idle, the bike stays cooler at low speeds ie ~25 or so in town. Probably because the pump is running more coolant through the rad or whatever... At a stop though obviously you want to keep it at idle.

I've found that also. Keep the revs up around 4k-5k adn keep the sppeds up over 40mph or so. Mine runs around 150-160 degrees constantly on hot days.

What year is your 450? Is it an '05?

i live in so. Ut, it gets pretty hot here too, some guys have suggested using Water Wetter instead of antifreeze, ill probably do this next summer since it is actually starting to cool down a little, putting the termi slip on's took alot of the heat away from the seat and also my legs, it seems like the engine temp may be a little cooler too.

Cheapest thing that will help out is switching to Silkolene Pro Cool coolent instead of regular antifreeze.

My dealer told me that the water pump does very little below 3000 rpm and the radiator does very little under 45mph.

Does anyone make a bigger radiator for these bikes yet?
