I just purchased my first Ducati, I went with the GT 1000. The dealer recommended I upgrade the exhaust to the Termignoni systems but couldn't really give me hard and fast reasons why other than sound increase.

The engine is the same as the Monster 1000 I believe. Can somebody explain the difference in sound and performance between:

  • Stock
  • Full Termignoni System
  • Termignoni Slip-ons
Thanks!

I'm not how many know empirically, what the performance diffs are between the systems you note.

Some generalizations can be made in the areas of appearance, performance, and sound (How I rate exhaust systems).

Appearance... totally subjective for all three choices.

Performance... the slipons will tend to save a few lbs, and can potentially deliver a nice performance gains. Ducati header systems are quite efficient and with some Ducs, slip-ons deliver superior #'s. The full pipe tends to save more pounds than slip-ons, and can usually deliver the best nums, but not always.

Sound... subjective, but you will typically get a luscious tone increase with slip-ons, and a louder, luscious tone increase with full pipe. But not everyone wants the latter. Low and deep is cool, not loud.

Mark -- How do you like the GT so far??
I'm thinking of getting that after the 1098 is paid off in about a year.
What color? I really like the Black and Tan.

Re the Slip Ons vs. Stock, have you taken your stock pipes apart?
There is a large catalyzer in the stock system that chokes the exhaust gas evacuation.

The slip ons don't have this and allow the system to breathe.
Enjoy!

I just got my 1098s Tricolore and I'm already frustrated as the dealer told me I'll have to wait until I've done 2500 to 5000k before they put on the Termi's. WTF! Is this the case, and if so why?
I had my Full Termi's installed when I picked up the bike. They gave me a better deal to install it before delivery. I was never told it would effect the performance of the bike. As a matter of fact, the guy who installed it was the only technician at the dealer that was Ducati Certified. So far, so good! :)

I'm confused, The "TC" comes with the full Termi system from the factory

full termi on the TC

Ten-6,

The full termi is not street legal. If the full termi were factory installed, the TC wouldn't get through customs. So Ducati ships the TC w/ the crappy overly-restictive street-legal exhaust installed, along w/ the full termi exhaust in 2 boxes inside the crate. The dealer then installs the full termi. That's the only way the bike can get through customs. So while the full termi is standard equipment on the TC, technically, it's dealer installed.

Hi, I,ve just purchased a stock 1098. I want to loose the restrictions the cat imposes. What advice can anyone give? Termis? Full or slippons? What will give the best power increase without making the bike run lumpy?

I also want get the deepest sound without necessarilly going too loud.

Thanks in advance

From what I see, it sounds like your dealer wanted to keep the Termi system for themselves and sell it off...and hence the b.s. story about waiting until all those miles are on it/time goes by???? If you bought and paid for a new TC, you were supposed to get the system with the bike/installed on it at the dealer, who adds an install fee to the overall Prep package of the bike. GET YOUR PHUKIN EXHAUST FROM THESE CLOWNS! If need be, contact Ducati USA and let them know what an authorized dealer is doing with their chit!
