I'm looking for two throttle grip & sleeve assemblies for my '08 1098. Do I have to go through my local dealer or are any of the vendors associated with this site stocking that part?

You wish to replace the rubber grips? The stock grips are glued onto the throttle tube and handle bar, so they need to be cut off and new grips can be pushed on. Ducati uses standard sized sportbike grips you can buy from pretty much any street bike accessory store.

Actually my intent is to replace the heated grips that were installed by the previous owner as they're wearing out. A good friend told me to get two sets so I can achieve the same heat transfer on both sides by installing the same size throttle tubes over the aluminum Heli bar. Changing the actual rubber grips will happen as well but it is not the main reason.

I too have the OEM throttle tube if you want it $10. Check out warmnsafe.com and look at their hand grip heat-trollers.
