Newbie question here. I have always changed both front and rear tires with the same brand and model at the same time but 2 days ago I rode by a construction site and caught 2 nails on the side of my rear tires where its not recommended to patch at all. I got almost brand new q2 on right now with +/-500 miles on them. Now correct me if I am wrong but I think ill be fine if I keep the same front tire and put a new q2 on the rear right? What about keeping the q2 in the front and put a new q3 on the rear?

Well the Q2 isn't a great tire, so maybe you should just buy a set of Q3's, which appears to be a far better tire. I wouldn't mix and match them because the profile is different.

You should be fine.
The front has less than 500 miles is almost new but need top match the front; with that said the rear should be Q2.
You should not mix tires.
