Q: I got broadsided by a car trying to jump the light and the shop wrote out a $19,500.00 bill to repair my 1098 '07 with 7500miles (the bike cost me 15,500.00). The insurance company of the guy totaled the bike(of course). I can buy the bike back for $2K. At first look it's all cosmetic damage but when they looked closer the frame, sub frame and the swing arm are damaged...the crashed happened at about 10 to 15 mph...enough to suffer a compound fracture with 6 day vacation in the hospital with 3 surgeries.
Sorry to be so long winded. So, the Q; is to salvage the bike and turn it into a track bike or try to fix it on the cheap, sell it for parts?????
Any ideas are well appreciated.

Ouch!

Sorry to hear about your mishap.

If you salvage all you can, you would have to (at least) purchase a new frame and swingarm as you certainly don't want any minor tweakage out on the track. Additionally, you'll have to completely go through the motor since it is a stressed member of the chassis. I'd hate to get her all dressed up, take her out to the track and have it fold at 120 mph braking into a corner.

You may be able to salvage $2K worth of parts to sell on ebay. Depends on what your time is worth.

Sorry to hear about the wreck, compound fracture! ouch! As for the bike, I'd say if the engine looks clean it alone is worth 2k.
Part out the rest and start to work on that track bike.

I would buy the bike for 2k and part it out, like he ^ said, if the engine is clean I think you can get about 2k just for that... However if you don't want to screw with it all, just let it go. It sounds to me like you are getting a good shake with the adjustment so maybe just start fresh. Either way if you are getting more than what you paid for the bike, that 2k is either money in your pocket or a free salvaged bike.

Win, Win... Well besides you getting fuct up. Maybe take that cash for your hospital bills?

Get better.

The shipping costs to kiwi-land will probably cut into your profit margin a bit...

Hey Guys Thanks for all the suggestion. I decided to keep it and look into turning it into a track bike. If it looks like it's too much for me then I'll post it here for sale first.
Keep the rubber-side down.
