Hello!
What is the price for a new 1098 i USA? Is it $14,995?
Why do people sell their used bikes for up to $20,000?
Do you have any local taxes over there that I dont know about?

I just find it unfair to pay around $23,000 for the same bike (1098) here in Europe! And where I live I have to pay local taxes too, so the 1098 price ends at $42,000 ready-to-go with plates!

But it's still a beauty, and I will have a black 1098S with a custom paint job, carbon fiber body, carbon exhaust ++
Yes, I know.. It will come to appx $60k for the bike..
But like I said: It's a beauty! It's a Ducati! :D

What? Where in the world do you live?

But let me say this...you are indeed getting ripped in Europe (or at least Germany for that matter) compared to the US. However, all the prices in the US are always without taxes. And although you can get around sales taxes for many things...there is no way around them for a car or bike...

Another huge factor is import / export duties / tariffs on vehicles from country to country. That can play a HUGE role on what you end up paying for a vehicle. Every country has different rates, and depending on where it's coming from (country of origin) that rate will change. The US is one of the easiest and most afordable countries to import and export from, while others countries are not. Some can impose as much as a 50% duty on goods such as motor vehicles. Which would explain why a standard Ducati 1098 could cost over $22K. It's the price of doing business from country to country. Last but not least, currency exchange rates can and will also play a role in the final price of a vehicle from country to country. Although not as much as the above mentioned duty charges, if there's an economical crisis on hand in the country of import or even the country of export, your currency may be weaker than that of the products origin. Sure the opposite can happen to, but it's rarely the case.

one of the reasons the 1098 is so cheap in the us compared to europe and the rest of the world is because the dollar isnt worth a @#$%... my dealer told me that the base 1098 in the us will probably go up at least 1 or maybe 2k next year to try and offset the weak dollar vs the euro...

its not just a ducati thing though; an 07 cbr600rr in the uk will sell for about 17k (USD) on the road vs about 11k in the US

I was in England for a few months last year, I picked up a cycle trader (dunno the actual name of it, blokes bike trader?) and the prices were insane...

I had an FZ1 that I paid $7200 USD for NEW, they were selling USED with like 15-20k miles for what worked out to 9-$10,000 USD!

Everything is crazy expensive over there, gas worked out to like $8/Gal.

They must love to vacation over here.

Yes I know the $ exchange has something to say, I know it is low compared to euro right now.
I live in Norway. at the top of Europe! :p

I don't know how we are paid compared to you in US, but as an electrican I am able to earn around $50k a year.

Edit: And when you (rappers) are talking about your $ 100,000 cars, well it's an ordranary Chrysler 300C 2.7 here..

Vanilla Ice made it a little farther than I did... I have a Jeep Cherokee, and I don't consider it an import! :yo:

I couldn't get over some of the prices when I was in Chicago last year, especially on your cars. I also couldn't get over how many "Pontiac GTO's" I saw - they're made in Aussie (Holden Monaro) & we discontinued them here a couple of years ago. The TV ads for interest free car finance... now that was something I'd like to see over here.
I'm a Fixed Operations Manager for a large dealership - we sell earthmoving machinery (loades, dozers, trucks, etc) & repair some of the real big gear that ome off the mines. I earn AUS $130k a year, but must admit its a good $30k more than normal in WA.

Damn, the funny thing over here in California is that some 300C owners thinks their car is worth 60k. Understood if they have the SRT-8 motor in it, but a 6 cylinder model with a Bentley-like grill and some $5k rims don't make it a 1098....o damn I am sooooo projecting my desire for my 1098s.

It's not just a bike, it's a Ducati 1098.
