Am I the only one who's wondering what's going on with the waitlist for 1098's?

I am increasingly reading about fortunate riders in the US who have been able to order & receive their 1098 in less than 8, or even 4 weeks, and stock sitting on US showroom floors while others are waiting at least 6 months. I'm in Australia, and placed an order back in March, and am still being told it (yellow 1098) won't be here until Novemer, AT BEST!

Now I read in the following thread: http://www.ducati1098.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1798
that Ducati are even ramping up their allocation for US.

So I'm curious, are these lucky riders just isolated exceptions and Ducati really are looking after all their customers? How long are people from other countries waiting? Who holds the record for waiting the longest time?

If this is wrong, might help us all who are waiting to at least know that everyone's being treated fairly.

Let us know...

Sparky,

Yes, I asked around, and was told it should be May/June, then after ordering, told November. But have confirmed with the Aust distributor that not a single Yellow 1098 has been supplied to Australia yet. 1st ones due Sept, but that's only a couple. See my point?

Where did you order yours?

Some dealers are more equal than others...

Lucky Phil,

I’m in Southern California and I placed an order for an ’08 red base on 04 April. Yesterday, the dealer told me it would be at least another month. On someone’s recommendation, I called another dealer, a few miles away, and could have picked it up tomorrow (I’m getting it next Saturday after my work commitments settle down). He even told me he has three (?) yellows sitting in their crates. I guess it’s dealer specific… Good luck!

Cheers,
Lenny

Lucky Phil, no use comparing deliveries with the yanks - they get a lot more Dukes then we do - I can tell you that I waited about 6 months to get mine- I was one of the first in my state to order one back in early november last year and ended up getting mine will april this year. As far as I know there are no yellows in Australia yet.

Australia seems to be worse, I live in Singapore and was looking around for a 1098 in May. I checked dealers in Aus and was given the same story that it would be at least November before i could get one. Luckily for me, mine arrived this week! I preferred Red though, I guess they are easier to come by.

G'day,

I ordered my red S at the start of July and should have it next week (meant to lob in the country on August 6).

I was told a black one would be only available at the end of the year or early next! If I wanted a BLACK Duc, that is... :)

The blacks look awesome but my first Ducati had to be red, I'm afraid.

Cheers!

The US is probably their biggest target market. They're trying to boost sales here as much as possible so I'd imagine other markets are going to suffer for it since apparently they still can't meet the demand for the bike worldwide.

Thanks for your feedback everyone. It is frustrating that Ducati are either conciously making the rest of the world wait for our US market colleagues, or not bothering to manage supply given the tremendous demand for their great design. I suspect the former. I'm sure the US guys would feel the same if they were on the receiving end of it.

To the rest of you who are also waiting unnecessarily long, commisserations & good riding when it arrives. I probably will continue to wait for this one, but next time, I'll just buy something else.

I got my bike 2 weeks after I called around for it. Yellows were especially easy to get ahold of in this area (Southern OK, Northern Texas). I remember when I was at home (in Canada) they couldn't even give me a DATE when I could get an S or a Tricolore and the base was going to be at least a few months. Crazy how they ignore the demand in a lot of areas. Could probably make some cash relocating the bikes from common areas to places where people would be willing to pay above sticker price for their bike faster.

Started looking last week for the first time and with my dealer calls found only three 2007 base models left (all Yellow) in SoCal. I picked up the second to last one Tuesday. My buddy plans on getting the last one Tomorrow.

Ken,

While I was on the phone with John O' at Spectrum last week, we worked out a deal on their very last red '07 base. He went to confirm it with his manager and saw someone riding off on it! So...I pick up my red '08 tomorrow (Saturday)
.

I'll look for you around town; I'll be the guy with the big ol' shit-eating grin on his face!

Phill,
Frasers in Sydney told me 3 months when I put down the deposit.
Luckily I got in in only 4 weeks. (Red base model) Some buyers in the que may not be ready to go when the bike arrives, so if you have cash ready, you may get satisfied quicker than expected.
Could be worth checking out.
Good luck!

Congrats Lenny,

We'll have to catch-up in the near future. I wonder who got the last one? Sounds like I got my 07 just in time.
