I found this topic from other site and want to share with you guys.

If you type DU788 in part no. you will see the followings:

http://www.ohlins.com/Motorcycle/tabid/53/Default.aspx

Part no: DU 788
Type:
T36PR1C1B
Length: 294,5mm
Stroke: 60mm
Fits: Ducati 1098(2007-2008),
Ducati 1198(2009-2009),
Ducati 848(2008-2009)

So it is pretty much confirm that there will be a 1198 /1198s/1198r in 2009???

what do u guys think??

Im honestly somewhat surprised by this but not really. It doesnt make sense as to why they didnt just go to 1198 in the first place.
If I remember correctly, Ducati made the 1098 first, then asked WSBK for a 100cc rule change. But WSBK surprised Ducati with the 200cc rule change, and they just scrambled up another 100cc for the 1098R.

thats a good find i very highly dought that they would change the displacement after only two years. but i agree with gamble why not have the displacement at 1198 if its eligible in WSBK. but then why buy an r????
+1 to that.

Production and marketing strategies continuously change. And Italians love to do things however they see fit without subscribing to anyones philosophy, but still like to add a bit of tradition on top.

So two years of production run. What did they do with the 916, 996, 998, 999 etc from 1994 onwards?

What was the longest model production run for any of those bikes? Possibly the 916? I'm not sure.

It was bound to happen. That is how they traditionally have developed their bikes. Our bikes have decreased in value, were always going to, and are now not going to be the highest cpapcity model? I don't care.

What does it all mean? Stuffed if I know. Possibly just that in 12 years time my bike will be worth about a third of what I paid for it. Much like the 916 is now.

I bought the 916 because I loved it, and just had to have one, and then watched the SP, the SPS, the 996, 998, 999 and all the S & R variants follow it out, and was tempted several times to upgrade. I bought my 1098 for exactly the same reason. But this is MORE than enough for me now. Can it really get better than this?
The 916 went for 4 years, the 916SPS paved the way for the 996, the 998 was the 'old' body with the 'new' testastretta motor , then the 999. I suspect they built the 998 until they ran out of the 'old' frame and body work before they phased it out.

Their marketing people realised that having all the different variations of the 748 and 916 didn't work in their favour and there wasn't really a great diff between the base and s models and they have openly said they they won't be doing that again real soon. Hence I don't expect to see an 'S' or 'R' 848 in the near future even though they have an base, S & R in the 1098. There is no international race category for the 848 so... maybe an S 848 in 2009 ?? as in the 1098.
I expect a few 'refinements' over the next couple of years but nothing major.

But then again, you never can tell.

MSRP 15,995 for base 1098
MSRP 39,995 for the 1098R
So 24 grand for upgrades

MSRP 13,495 for 848
+
$26,485.73 for the 848R. PARTS
SO 39980.73 for the 848R
For that kind of cash just send it to Durban with a rack of beer and 25 k and get back some crazy sick magnesium cased carbon fiber concoction that was 150 pounds and is race ready for real.

I still think they will make an 848s. or R. It's all about marketing, and keeping a model interesting.

As far as an 1198, I would bet that that will happen.

As far as 848 and 1098 comparisons. A R6 is a nice bike, for a "little" brother to the R1. A GSXR 600 is nice as well, as a "LITTLE brother to a GSXR 1000. A Porsche Boxster is very nice, as a "little" brother to a Carrera.

An 848 is nice, as a starter bike for little girls, compared to a "Toy for big boys', a 1098.

I am riding with guys on 848's this Monday, and I am relishing the opportunity to dust them on the straights..........it will be fun.

I probably would too.

But they have always improved the breed with each new model release haven't they?

I bet they would still have the more expensive R with the TC, TTX, and whatever else it has, the S with the 'average' suspension bits, the better rims, and the base. I bet you would not get anywhere near the extra 20 odd hp in the S or the base, that you would get in the R, for an extra 100cc or not. In short, I bet the R would get a bit more for the same price too, thus preserving the investment of the existing R owners.
