I need some advice or direction on where to go now. When I bought this Ducati almost 3 years ago it would shutoff when I would go from high RPM to low RPM really fast periodically. Took it to a Ducati shop and they adjusted something and it hasn't done it since. Here recently (like a month ago), while riding the bike in normal conditions, it just turned itself off and back on in a half a sec. In that time never losing power to the dash, but it was like you were hitting the off button on and back off again really fast. I should also note that the bike has a racing ECU put in by the 2nd pervious owner. I am the 4th, so the last owner was no help in finding the original ECU. All I want to do is to ride the bike the way it was intended. I have recently bought a used ECU off of eBay to try and fix the problem myself, but was unsuccessful as the light for the key emblem stayed lite when trying to start the bike with this used ECU in it. The first time I took the bike to a Ducati shop, the tech said that they couldn't read any error codes on it because the software in the motorcycle was too old and they didn't have a computer to read it. So in the picture, there is and has always been a wrench lite on the info screen and the key light would usually go off with the other (racing) ECU in the bike. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

The wrench symbol is the service indicator, this is turned off by the technician once the service is done assuming the required milegae has been reached, it cannot be turned off before the service mileage has been reached, i.e if service is due at 20000 miles the speedo must read 20001 to be able to turn this off.
You can also get software like jpdiag or IAWdiag that with a couple of cables you can do this yourself with a laptop.

You cannot just replace the ECU as the key is coded to the dahs on your bike, hence the key symbol when you tried this. Your bike has the IRC immobiliser system, see attached service bulletin for more info on how it works.

As for your fault, that sounds to me like a bad connection or broken wire somewhere which will be one of those really annoying things to find, though I'd start by checking everything around the steering head area.

maybe check the sidestand switch as well - this is a fairly common problem - had this on my hm1100 good luck
Agreed… I have a 2012 1200S and this issue really created a dangerous situation while riding through construction areas with Jersey barriers on either side with no place to go when the bike cut out…. Had to coast and restart.
