Alright, I am finally financially capable of buying an 848. And the new EVO version is just about to be imported to my country, with only 5 available, at least for now.

However, the bike won't be produced until March, and I won't see it til late April or May this year. By then, it's even closer to the release of the 2012 new model.

A lot have come to my mind, since the bike is relatively expensive in my country (twice the price in the States)
.
Should I order the EVO now, or wait for another year?
Buying the EVO may end up knowing another lighter and faster bike coming around in just a few months, but I won't be able to afford the new bike even if I sell the EVO. An used 848 is hard to find here, since there were only 10 imported.

OK, for me, this is my first DUCATI. I chose the 848 because I like the middle weight better. The 2012 bike probably will be a blast, an even better than the 1098/1198. But on the other hand, it could also be like the 999 first released. Besides, I still prefer a middle weight, and based on past experiences, it probably won't be out until 2013.
Ya I know chasing the newest and the latest will make myself suffer, but I don't want to regret on this.

I am more toward getting the 848 EVO now, have been saving money for too long.
But i don't know....just like to know what you guys think?

If I were in your situation, I will buy a good condition pre-owned 848, ride it for a year and sell it 3 months before the new model is launched.

I do understand your way of thinking on whats the point of buying a new bike where infact you know that a new one is just around the corner. So the solution is buy a bike that has depreciation applied to it, which passes the savings to you and will give you the instant gratification of ridding your a bike right away:D now when there is a strong buzz about the new model, just sell it.

However, I do not think that a successor to the 848 will be released anytime soon. With the history of ducs, they will first launch their literbikes ex (1098 was released in early 07) whilst they release the 848 around 20 months after, (848 was released in 08).

So it is safe to say that the 1194 will be released in 2012 while the middle weight counter part will be released late 2013 or early 2014. this is just my conjectures so anyone can input their opinions.

There will be bugs to be worked out of a new model also. Thats how I look at it. Im not buying the last version of a model, Im buying the most finely tuned version of that model. :)

Is this true? I heard it somehwere before that if Ducati launches a new bike, it ha some quirks in the first year of its production?

I bet the new liter bikes will come out 2013 (winter 2012). Then it will be followed by the new 848 probably 2014 (winter 2013). So if you can wait that long... perhaps get another bike for the time being? The Evo would hold its glory for less than 2 years.

But again Taiwan would be trending slower so you would probably get the new 848 late-2014.

Its a hard choice. But finally remember. The years you spend waiting for the new 848 would be years you could have been riding an Evo. For me I pulled the trigger earlier and was happy to be riding earlier.

Dude, you have the money. BUY the 848 EVO NOW and start having the time of your life! I bought my 848 EVO Dark about 3 months ago and it's the shit! Absolutely no regrets. Most fun motorcycle I've ever owned and I've owned many! I also currently ride an '08 CBR 1000rr which is a world class litre bike, but it's nowhere near as much fun as the 848! I get on the CBR after being on the EVO, and the CBR feels like a cruiser. Seriously, unless you're an incredibly skilled rider (you live at the track, have a race license, etc.), you will be amazed at the capabilities of the 2011 model, unless you're in like, the top 1% of riders on this forum. Even then, for street riding and canyon carving and the occasional track day, I think the "best of the best" would still be hard pressed to max out the capabilities of this bike and be left wanting for more. Don't worry about what may or may not come down the pike and how much "better" it may or may not be than what's available now. Buy it now and ride the shit out of it!

Nice roads... you should try riding up the Hsien-Tien Mountains or Taroko Gorge. :)
Ya I've tried Taroko once, it was amazing! It's tough to get there though...
Actually you have to pass the rode I post first (Bei-Yi Road) to the east coast, and then get south to Taroko. I'd bet it's one of the greatest route for bikers on earth!

Its a tough decision. We all know new bikes have recalls and quirks, and the 848EVO has been improved upon, which is the way I'd go to have sanity, plus by throwing a bit of money at the EVO you not eat 600's but will hang with the 1198's as well!
