2020 Ducati Multistrada 1260s - Excessive engine breaking when rolling off throttle

I am experiencing Excessive engine breaking when rolling off throttle. It throws me forward. I have taken the advice of setting it to touring mode, but, call me crazy, that seems to make it even worse. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Have a blessed day!

Hi coff8199,

Probably no takers as the post looks like bott bait 🤔. However I saw you asked a genuine question on another post, so I'll have a go here.....

Severe engine braking? Hmmmm, now that should'nt be too much concern since most 1260cc V2's will have strong engine braking compared to an inline 4, but if you could explain how it's being ridden, we might be able to comment if it's normal or if something is wrong.

I assume your 1260 has not yet had it's 15k mile service......maybe it desperately needs valve adjustment or an air filter & plugs and a throttle body synchro 😉.

The bike should be strong decelerating but not unrideablely so.

Thanks man, I would not say it's unridable. It just rides more like a crotch rocket then an adventure bike. The engine braking on my CBR wasn't as strong as the multi. It's doing a great job with what it's designed to do. But I would have thought that Urban mode would have been less engine braking than sport mode. I would have expected this amount of engine braking in sport mode for sure. I didn't really notice it when riding alone, but the last time I rode with someone in front of me I had to roll off the throttle often to avoid passing them. That is what I was referring to as excessive as it would Lurch me forward when I gently rolled off the throttle. As I said before the bike isn't happy under 5500 RPM so I have to keep it in a lower gear so it doesn't stutter thus causing the engine break to engage.
As far as riding conditions when this occurs, I was pacing him at approximately 50 miles an hour in third gear around 4krpm.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up 👍

You are correct about the 1260 being a crotch rocket instead of more like a Vstrom.

It has 150hp and Ducati testosterone in it's passageways so hang on and enjoy 😁.

It's a big V2 so will be quite shocking compared to a civilized 4cyl CBR - I had a Blackbird 1100XX so I know what you mean 😉.

It's good you are not lugging the V2 as they are definately not cruisers.....proper term is sports adventure, but Ducati Multistrada is way more road sports than most 'adventure' bikes, with the 190/55 rear and 17" front they are not a GS adventure, but a GP adventure bike 😆.

👍
