And when I use the reader and download the the bin file and open it in tune pro it has the text saved but doesn't show on the dash. Any one else have this issue. I did also use jpdiag to reset the tps and service reminder and that worked fine

Hi everyone,

Thought I'd chip in with some discoveries on this topic.

I've been using DucatiDiag with no problems once I got the 'correct' cable working.
What I discovered (after getting my first china-made OBD2 to usb cable) was that there are two types of chipset available for this cable.

The older one (name escapes me) will not work (some have apparently got it to work but it is very difficult to find correct driver) but the newer FT232BL chip will work with all OS's and is the one I ended up getting 2nd time around.

If your thinking about purchasing the USB to OBD2 cable on Amazon or eBay, make sure you include "FT232BL" in the search as well.

A good tutorial for those not electrically inclined is here...
How to: DucatiDiag

For those using the 1098 or 848 definition file for TunePro from the site recommended a few posts back, you may find it is not quite right. I tried using the 1098 definition file for my 1198S and it was not correct. 848 one wasn't right either.

Easiest way to find out is to load in your ecu bin file and look for the dah display. If it does not say the same as the scrolling text on your bike then the definition file is NOT correct.

Being a programmer myself, I used a hex editor to look for the location of my dash display and it was waaaay off as compared to the definition file.

The definition file is basically just a template which tells where the start and end of all the elements inside the ecu like radiator fan turn-on and turn-off, dash display, etc are located.

If the definition file is wrong and you go to view the dash display and end up finding random letters or numbers shown and you change it then you may well be overwriting data for an AF map, or something else!!!

So be warned to those who aren't sure, if the definition table is not correct for your bike you may end up doing more harm than good.

I found it easier to use my hex editor, search for the text "1198S" and then find the 14 or so characters responsible for the dash text to change it.

What I really wanted to find was the fan turn-on and turn-off so they kick in sooner but as the ecu uses data which itself has hard-coded offset values for some elements (like temperature) it is hard without finding a document (from Magnetti Marelli possibly?) which shows the definition of all the memory offsets for the ecu elements for our bikes.

If someone had this or could point me in a direction to source it, I would be more than happy to write the definition file for ANY ducati bike using our ecu type.

Sorry to waffle on but hope that's helps anyone new to this.

can you change the welcome text in jpdiag
yes but as the above post to a link shows if you want more functionality from jpdiag you will need to purchase it to unlock the other features

"Flashing your ECU
  • You need the writer.exe from JP(code author) and a license to be able to flash your ECU. 100 Euros is the cost."

If all you want to do is reset the Service message, TPS play with trim see numbers it's free you just have to upload your data dump to him and he will send you the unlock code for free.

Just a heads up my problem was the lap top the serial ports on the newer laptops do not like to work once I got a old laptop with a true DB com port (even if I'm not physically using it) it worked perefect.

Got mine sorted. Gotta pay jp 100 euro and he will send a program with 2 maps to suit your bike. First map is the termi slip on map and the 2nd map is for termi full system. It copies on to your stock ecu. The program will also let you change the dash text. Change the temp for when fans kick in. Turn off 02 sensors and turn of side stand switch and other stuff. Well worth the 100 euro to flash the ecu to the termi dp ecu. Big improvement and nicer to ride. Same job that ducati wanted 700 for
