Bar end mirrors

One of the first things I noticed after picking up my 1098 was how worthless the mirrors are. Can anyone that has bar end mirrors let me know if they are more useable? I'm debating between bar end mirrors or the mirror extensions. Any help in making my mirrors do more than hold the turn signals would be appreciated.

I dont find mine to be that worthless, you just have to lift your elbows when leaned
over to see directly behind you. I didn't change mine.

if you cant live with that then, Shift-Tech has extenders for the mirrors, they will look
like the current 1198 model with little longer mirrors.
Someone stole Guido's Idea ;)

Another bar-end mirror fan here. I've ran them on my last few bikes and love them. I shouldn't say "them" as I only use one on my left bar. I think a lot of people aren't a fan as they have to look down to see behind you. Once you adapt to them I think they work every bit as well as stock mirrors and then some. No vibration what so ever, easily flip in, look WAY better, easy track prep etc.

I run a CRG LS and MadDuc block off plates. I do not use any kind of adapter to mount the bar end mirror. There is enough bar (2 or 3 mm) that the mirror screws on with no problems at all.

You guys who replaced with bar ends and turn signals too as bar ends - how do I deal with the electricals? Do I pull the stock wires from the mirrors and route inside the handlebars or something? I'm doing this on the weekend...hopefully tomorrow if it rains LOL...

I have Oberon bar end signals and Rizoma bar end mirrors, FWIW...

Merci:)

oops sorry I don't know how that happened...mods please delete first one...

Cblast, Motowheels is where I bought my oberon bar end signals along with mad duc mirror block off plates. Part numbers are: MD-100 for the block off plates and 92634.01 for the bar end sigs. Extra weight from the sigs help with some of the vibes as well. Source some crg bar end mirrors of you choice and you are good to go.

As far as the connectors go, pull your mirrors off and cut the connectors off and connect them to the signals. You can strip and solder then hear shrink or use appropriat butt connectors with heat shrink. Good luck.

Fantastic! Thank you, this info is exactly what I was looking for! I really appreciate you taking the time to supply the part #'s as well. :yo: I am going to order the signals and block offs this week and get a set of CRG's coming too. I like that look a lot.

I got the 1198 mirror extenders which help a bit (very cheap for an official DP parts as well) Only A$50 each and it keeps the original lines of the bike. Sorry to say I think the bar end mirrors look ugly as hell on a sports bike.

I also use this helmet http://www.reevu.com/moto_product.asp which as an inbuilt rear view system. Its simply amazing, I can't imagine ever riding without it now.

I wanted to say that but I didn't want to hurt their feeling :D
IMO regardless how safety concerned you are, those
bar end mirrors fits a bike out of Taiwan not a ducati.

I've seen a TV show called "beyond tomorrow" they had that helmet featured
about a year ago, impressed to see them out already!

Pretty sure I got the new version, only got it 3 months ago. This is the Australian distributors site and the helmet I got http://wraptor.net.au/shop/index.php?act=viewDoc&docId=8

I got mine directly from the distributor in Australia, the sizing was pretty similar to my old Shoei. After a few questions, I dropped around to his house and he let me take on for a spin, which was awesome.

The latest info I had was they were approved for street use in EU, USA, Japan and NZ with Australian approval under review, so mine is only for track use of course.. would never use it on the road until its approved...

As for distributors in other counties, Google or the link I gave earlier has a form for requesting international distributors, that's how I found them initially, they got back to me the next day

extenders

I just put the oberon extenders on my 1198s this w/e, and secured the mirrors with foam. These made a big difference in visibility. They're not perfect, to get a 6 o'clock look, I need to shift my head right or left a couple inches, but at least I don't have to do the chicken dance.

I just couldn't bring myself to put the bar end mirrors on it.

bar ends ugly...really?

imo the bar end mirrors look way better than the Mickey Mouse ears that you see on all bikes... and have seen on all bikes...forever. I didn't want to have to move my arms out of the way to see anything, and I sure didn't want to extend the protuberances out any farther. The look is much cleaner without those large ears catching the wind. The CRG's are excellent, fold back if you split lanes too. Plugged the holes with led turn signals.
