Gotta' pull the pipes. Everything but the headers. Book is for stock sys so no help. Not suree how to get rear "Y" pipe off without removing the under cowl pan. Not sure if mid pipe will just slide off the headers with out taking them off. Anybody done this I'd appreciate some tips.

It's only been a couple of months since I've removed mine, I started with the cans; they were very simple to remove.

Next, 1 sprint and the big Y connector is off, again didn’t take much to remove. You may need a little twisting motion to loosen up where its connected. You may aswell remove all the springs at this point and the right footpeg.

Next I removed the bolt securing both pipes together, just above and to the right of the right footpeg. REMEMBER the left side of the pipes fits above the right side, with the clip affixed to the right pipe.

Since all the remaining pieces are intertwined with each other, at this point all I could do was using a rubber mallet, with the help of my brother on the left side of the bike and me on the right side, while my brother was pulling the exhaust toward the rear, I was also tugging and tapping the exhaust from the right side toward the rear. The pulling and tapping slowly started separating the exhaust from both headers at the same time. The long piece going under the bike came out all as one piece. It took quite a bit of effort but it seemed to work.

All that was left at this point was the two header pieces. The rear header has one nut that will take forever to put on. The nuts weren’t on that tight, they were snug.

The oil cooler needed to be removed temporarily to remove the front header.

Hope this helps!!

You can remove the cans without taking off the tail section. You can leave the cans connected to the Y pipe, unbolt the hangers, remove the spring from the Y pipe to the mid pipe, and wiggle it out. You can also remove the cans from the Y pipe first if your Y pipe is too difficult to remove from the mid pipe.
