I need to replace the OEM clutch pack and basket (non slipper) on my '08 1098 w/16K miles. I'd really appreciate any recommendations on whether to replace them with the OEM parts, or aftermarket, and, if so, which aftermarket brand(s). Thanks in advance.

I can't remember the brand but ask around, there are aftermarket plates that quiet down the dry clutch rattle to a respectable level. I guess they are machined to tighter tolerances. Gives you the awesome tambourine sound but not so much John Deere tractor sound at idle.

Barnett makes a basket with steel inserts to prolong the life of the basket and tabs on the clutch plates.

If you go after market, you'll get a lighter set up.

I've never used barnetts, but I've read that they're good plates, I plan to use them when the time comes.

I fitted an MPL basket with stock plates at about 30,000 kms (18,000 mi). It was quieter than the (new) stock set-up due to a tighter tolerance on the slots in the basket.
25,000 kms on it still works fine - better than the OEM did at this mileage.

MPL make Premium Quality parts!! After having many of their excellent components I intend to fit an MPL slipper to my track bike soon.

A shallower stack height means there is less applied pressure from the springs to clamp the plates together. Did you install the same number of plates you removed in the same order?
